I have an open diff and eventually plan on getting a zex. I was wanting to know what kind of difference it would make. Example: With the open diff I would do a one wheel peel all the way through first and second. With the zex I only spin for about 20'. I just want people's experiences when they went from an open diff. to a zex, lsd, etc.

I moved this to the driveline forum & here's my answer previously stated in another thread about the Zexels/G80s/etc... http://s10planet.com/forum/showpost.php?p=104483&postcount=50

What was the difference you felt jason? From the g80 to the zex?
I will be going from an open diff to the zex soon probably after christmas...you know how those holidays can be ( a real drain on my dang money)

Yes, I noticed a difference between the G80 I originally had & the Zexel my cousin & I put in.. he couldn't feel the difference but because it's my truck I noticed it.. ever so slight as it was, I noticed it. Was it worth the money & time swappin from a G80 to a zexel? IMO yes.. but that's just me. Is it a HUGE difference? No, not really. If you could get a G80 for, let's say.., $50 & a zexel for $150.. the G80's just about as good AND $100 cheaper. Others may disagree w/ me but that's just how I feel. Cost vs performance...

Sorry, I should have placed it here to begin with. I know it makes a difference that can be felt. I was wanting to know actual quantative differences[1/4 mile differences 0-60 etc.] Sorry if I didn't explain myself well enough in the first post. I wasn't wanting the differences between the different types of non-open diffs, just the differences from the open diff to the non open diffs. Although I appreciate any feedback.

If you wanna knock out some 1/4 mile time.. get some traction bars. Easier to install & a little cheaper. $120 from summit.. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=LAK%2D21705&N=700+115&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=LAK%2D21705&N=700+115&autoview=sku) I use 'em & they feel a lot better.. only problem I have is they make the truck ride like a '60s gasser. haha.. but then again it's a truck & I know it'll be kinda choppy ridin.

So in your opinion there isnt much difference between the both? other than the zex is a stronger piece...
Nice.... Well i got the g80 for 17 bucks and the zex for 150 but oh well i wanted the stronger piece..!!!!!!!!!!

Would this dramatically reduce my one wheel peel distance?

Then go w/ the zexel.. like I said, it's better, IMO.

Are you refering to the traction bars? They'll help w/ it because of how traction bars work. It's like adding more weight to the rear because traction bars 'push' down on the rear supressing a burn out... keep in mind I said supress not eliminate. haha. I still light my wheels up w/ traction bars & the Zexel. There's just not enough weight over the rear wheels to keep them from smokin.. & I still get one wheel peel w/ the torsen, sometimes.

Have you ever thought of building a set of traction bars? It looks like you could do it for less than $120. I know there is an optimal length for them to work properly, but if you had a pair to copy it looks like it wouldn't be too hard or expensive to build. I'm cheap.:)

If I had some 2x3 square tubing I could problably make some. I have the old shock mounts but I'd need to get some devo hats (snubbers) & some rod (ha ha.. it goes over the leafs in the front). That'd be about $80-90 just for materials & then I, or you, need to weld it up.

I could get everything but the snubbers for free. I just need blue prints. I work in industrial/commercial construction. I do electric work for the other trades and they return the favor. I work with iron workers, welders, tinbenders, etc.:DPerks!

That g80 cost 45 bucks more than my zex. Next time be a lil more patient
I totally understand wanting to get somthing and have been burned in the past by getting stuff and not really checking around, not saying you didnt but. Just in my experience come to think about it i think we had talked about the g80 i have before
If you had asked me i might of even been able to get you a zex from the guy i got mine from or an eaton he has a bunch of them laying around lol... But really you could of went to the junk yard and pulled one for more than half the price you paid
Well i hope you like it and def put a thread on how it was gettin it in and then on what the difference is.
I am sure you will love having it

$30+ for snubbers.. use the stock shock mounts & weld the 2x3 box steel to it. Just make sure the snubber sits under the spring eye. You can design your own.. it's just that easy.
