i took the lowering blocks off of my truck today at work, got tired of the wind drag, and also as soon as i sqautted mine, 3 or 4 other people did it to their truck. anyway, it also made my differential rub/dent my exhaust piping and was bottomiing out my rear end and cracked my vent hose. so as soon as i took them off, my friend pulled up in his '76 F-100...he decided he wanted them on his truck to raise the rear end a lil bit. so...i pulled it in, put it on the lift, and took the tires off...only to see that some idiot in the past 30 years decided it was a good idea...for some odd reason...to put a whole new set of leaf springs ontop of the old ones. it would have been ok if he took the old ones apart and put the new ones where they should be in the middle of the whole kitten caboodle, but did he???NO...he put a 1/2 inch block between the old set and put the new ones ontop of the old leafs, and bloted the bracket back to the top. did this make the ride or suspension stiffer???no...it just added more weight to the truck. so i started taking the old u-bolts off, and half of one of the blocks falls off, and it had been that way long enough to completly rust inside the crack. and for some reason, a nut on that same side wouldnt budge. so i took the angle grinder and cut that mofo off. so i sent the boy with my girlfriend and a good u-bolt to advanced auto to get a new u-bolt...and they came back with a square one. the guy there wouldnt even help them. so when they got back, i had to stop trying to get the other 2 seized up bolts from the other side off to go get the right u-bolt. well, i got all that crap finished and the 2 seized nuts off the other side and the useless leafs and broke down blocks off, went to lower the jack to drop the axle down to fit the blocks, and the axle didnt move. ever hear that saying "dont wash it, the mud is holding it together"? well it holds truth. the axle didnt fall because of the mud on there. so after beating it with a rubber mallet, it fell and i found out the shocks were too short to reach the brackets for them on the axle. so i put the tires on, lowered the truck back down to the ground, and stretched the shocks out to fit. it all came together after about 5 hours of beating, prying, lubricating, wrestling, and manuvering stuff around. he's happy, im happy, and everything worked out...
