use the thick mdf wood, and resin to make it smooth. then paint it. my $.02
I built mine out of 3/8" plywood. I bent the wood to get some curves in it and use some cleats to screw it together. than I put 1/2" thick foam over it and covered it with vinyl. it came out pretty good and has been together for about 6 mounths. I used contact cement to hold the foam on and the vinyl. I also put speakers in it, cup holders that you can buy at a local boat store, and two 12 volt power outlets. I also have about twice the storage in it compared to the stock one. but I dont have a shifter in it. its the second picture down and the thrid pic is my rear center consoul.car domain (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/719877)

Nice ride dude. The console looks good. I signed your guess book and left out that I like your system especially the 18" sub, I bet it slams. My user name on cardomain is fastmoney. Check out mine sometime.
