As for what it does - you inject an atomized mix of water and methanol into the intake after the s/c or turbo - the latent heat of evaporation of the water cools the intake air that was heated up by pressurizing it in the s/c or turbo. the methanol increases the effective octane rating of the gas (arguably up to 116 or so) and suppresses detonation
