What kind of gains would be expected by getting a high voltage coil better wires. and such is there a better distributor? Are the factory pieces not very good and what would be a good brand to buy?

I couldnt tell ya, I have heard bad things about Accel and their distributor caps, so I would stay away from them...but.. im interested to know as well

No gain whatsoever.
Until you start twisting it above 6000 rpm's, the stock ignition is fine.

I can't tell you what kind of gain (if any) can be had, but I do know my factory coil would begin tapering down in voltage above 3000 rpm. I guess your not really gaining anything, kind of like reducing losses. Anyway Accel coils do put out more power than the MSD's. By combining an Accel coil, MSD 6A, Taylor wires, and NGK iridium plugs, I got an improved idle, throttle response, and a little better top end. Also I was able to open up my plug gap a little more.

Here, read my post about the parts.. http://www.s10planet.com/forum/showpost.php?p=108718&postcount=24
As for gains.. 5-7hp.. maybe. It's nothing you'll feel but you may see it at the gas pump.
EDIT:That's just for the coil & wires. AC Delco is the only thing I'll use for the cap & rotor. It's not too expensive, reliable & it's good quality. Plug wires I used summit brand 8mm.. they're pretty good, too, especially for the price.
