my all-time favorite would be the goodyear wrangler MT/R, i like how it looks and the traction is great.

if noise isnt a issue buy ground hawgs they last A WHILE on asphalt especially with how light our trucks are compared to regular full-size trucks just get ready to come off so cash for hawgs though. swampers usually do ok on road but dont last as long as other tires would milage wise but all this depends on how much time you spend on the asphault. just be sure to rotate whatever tire you use often since the ifs in our trucks like to wear ever other lug on most mud tires. BFGs usually do pretty good too but also are kinda pricey.

BFG MT's would be my choice

super swampers usually dont last very long. i havent personally had experience, but friends have had very good experiences with pro comps. i think they also have a 60k warrenty on them if i remember correct. nitto mud grapplers also have pretty good tread life.
BFG MT's would be my choice
X2 on the BFGs...
I love Super Swampers, but they usually don't last... don't know how the radials do though, I've only had bias-ply.

The military uses the Goodyears. I personally dont like 'em. But then again I've never got stuck... I slide on ice kinda good though.
This topic may be good for my future use :)

This is all being said with the general understanding that mud tires are not meant for general street driving and are going to wear quickly b/c of that, right?

how about the best mudding tire with no bias against brands.
how about a radial category and a bias ply category?
say an s-10 with a 6" lift, what would be excellent
Mudding only? Super Swamper Boggers.

I have a set of wildcat ext's on my pickup now. I have roughly 20-25000 miles on them now and there is bout 1/4 in. of tread left on them, kinda disappointed.

Here is a list of mud tires that I have owned and my mileage:
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R about 30,000
Nitto Mud Grappler about 15,000
Toyo Open Country MT 35,000
I you want a long lasting tire that is decent off-road, I'd go with a BFG All-terrian. I'm very pleased with them on road and off road and the last forever - had 60K on the set we took off the Blazer and there was still thread left.

X2 on BFG AT's. They were on my 93 when I got rid of it, and the still had tread left, but I'm not sure how many miles but it was 5 years worth of driving.

off road tires work well for two reasons. first, the tread pattern but second, the rubber compound plays a factor too, depending on the terrain you want. the softer the compound, the more they "stick" and the worse they were.
ground hawgs are great for mileage because they suck off road (very hard compound). MTR's and BFG's are both soft and wear quickly. im only speaking of MT's because i consider an AT a street tire.
with that said, my tire of choice is a plain old TSL, bias ply and all.

I have BAJA MTs on my truck and they are holding up great, I have only had them for a little while, but I like them so far. Like most people will tell you there really isn't a mud tire that last really long on a daily driver, but that's why they are called mud tires and not all terrains. I also have friends who like there bfg's mud terrains.

Lost of people here in HI use pro comp because there a good medium. Since most guys just wanna look sky jacked and dont wanna take there baby off the black top they throw on some decent sized pro's.
Super swammpers are great for traction but bad on wear because of the soft rubber, ride is great though lol.
no mud tire wears good for a dd...lol
I disagree. When I had my full size daily driver Blazer, I had 35" BFG MT's - those suckers lasted forever!

how does the Super swampers hold up in winter? Ice and everything can be a PITA because of the large grooves dont grip so well...

tsl's hate the ice, and my old BFG muds were one of the softest tires, meaning the went FAST!.

get some sport king at tires. the nobs on mine are about 3/4 inch tall and get good grip offroad. they r not a really agressive so they r not really loud. id say u could get 50,000 miles out of a set easily if rotated regularly and properly alligned.by the way iv got 30 inch 9.5 wide tires
