Alright guys Its getting to be that time where i will need to re-do the brakes.... I know its the most fun thing to do lol.
Well I am wanting some info, I want to get some pads that will have very little if best no brake dust. Ideas? I also will need to replace the rotors.
Ideas on that? maybe a bigger version? if possible or just a better stronger stock set.
Thanks as always!!!!!!!!!

Nothing bigger in the way of rotors.. but you could get crossdrilled ones but really.. for a street car/truck it's not needed.

What brand would you suggest for the least ammount of brake dust?
What about the rear?
Its stock with drums

The Hawk HPS's I got were low on dusting. PepBoys carrys them...or did carry them.
Rears dont wear much and not really an issue with dusting. Regular Wagners will work well.

ceramic pads will not dust much but i dont like them b/c they are so hard they wear the rotors real bad and they tend to squeal just go with a good quality metallic pads and you will be fine.

when I did my brakes, I went with "white box rotors" and good "semi-metallic" pads...havnt had much of a problem. No noises, no brake fade, even when I drive the snot out of it..excellent pedal..been on there for about 8 months now, and when I serviced them last month they wernt showing much, if any signs of ware, and they have 20,000Kms on them already..
Thats my 2 cents..Canadian...so .98 USD..lol

I was wondering about the bearings. The lock nut you tighten it so its tight and then back it off so its still tight but free spins right?
Guys its been 5 or 6 yrs since i messed with bearings.
I used to do it all the time when i had my dart cause there was always something to mess with tighten adjust fix ya know!
Oh and the lock nut its self.... Is it gonna be a bear to get off the whole way or once its broken loose will it spin free?
I helped my step dad do brakes on my grandma's 88 pontiac bonneville and it was a bear the whole way.
This was say...10 yrs ago?
But i remember that damn gm part!
My dart was easy once it was loose it came right of!
Thanks!
Brakes are going to get taken care of tomorrow. I spent 175 bucks today at napa.
Oh almost forgot. Does my truck have abs? and if so the abs ring thats on the back of the rotor is it pretty straight foreward to take out and reinstall?

I always tighten the caselated nut while spinning the rotor/hub. Making sure that it is tight but loose enough to spin fairly freely. This will also help seat the bearing. I back it to the closest opening for the cotter pin to go into.

Looks like when doing brakes you need an allen wrench 3/8's to take the caliper off.

Yes, the caliper pins are allen. Be sure to clean the old bearing parts good ( I use mineral spirits in an old pan) and use good grease to repack them. I use Valvoline MolyEP for GM which is red colored. Some people prefer to use the Moly for Ford which is black colored. Either works fine.

Breaks are all fixed and it was actually really easy. Alot easier than i was thinking and the second side went real fast lol!
As how it works the first time you are figuring out how to do it and then the second time you know all the tricks!
