Not quite sure about a 96 s10 but they should be the same. there should be tensioner pulley there. just put a 3/8" rachet in the hole and turn in the direction that losens it.

agreed on the tensioner thingy!
Pssssh. . .
You dont need no fancy tensioner thingy.
I'll show you this lil' shortcut my buddy showed me.
Now where did I put that Plasma torch. . . .
I read that and If i didnt know better it sounds like you guys were suggesting to remove the tensioner pulley alltogher. To Subboxmaker, the tensioner is springloaded one direction will unload the spring making the belt easier to remove, the other will put pressure on the belt, making it a ***** to remove
hey where did you get your h/o alt from and who makes it. I need one for my truck and i've heard some are not direct bolt ins. I dont need a 200 amp one just like 150 would be fine. I was just wondering how you liked yours.

He wasn't saying to take the idler pulley off he was talking about the 3/8's slot you use to unload the pressure off the belt tensioner. That's what we were in agreement with him about. The idler pulley doesn't have the 3/8's slot.

Oh and not all have the slot, some of the tensioners have a bolt in the tensioner that you can use either a ratchet or wrench on.I took a quik pic of the one on my 93 S10.The tensioner on it has the bolt but it might be different than yours. The tensioner is bolted to the AC compresser in the pic.You can see the bolt head that you have to turn in the pic.http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=489&stc=1
