can someone give me an idea of how my truck would look with the T/A wheels painted - I'm thinking kind of a gun-metal grey or graphite color?
This is the only pic I have here right now, do you need a direct side view?

here's one of just the front that would probably give a good idea of how it would look as well

perfect, thanks man! I think I may paint them after seeing that, I just wanted to make sure it was going to look okay.
Yea... that looks way better with the dark blue paint than the current silver. :D

how do you properly mask off the tire when you're painting a wheel? do you think it's worth paying to get them taken off and put back on again (I'm guessing ~$100 with balancing)?

That looks good. I agree with Tom, it flows better with the color of your truck.

theres no real easy way or quick way to do it. its just takes a little time is all but the best i can think of is lay a sheet of newspaper over the whole tire and wheel cut out the center to expose the wheel then tape off the edge of the circle real good.

not a problem :thumbsupsmiley: i agree with everyone, they look really good on your truck

thanks again Cali. I had initially planned on painting them that color when I bought them off ebay but when they arrived they looked pretty good and I chickened out. I've had a few cans of duplicolor wheel paint in the garage for months - I guess I'll get some use out of them as soon as it warms up a bit!
don't forget to update us when you're done

Well it was finally warm enough here to go at the wheels and I got one done today. I left the lip silver like Mike suggested, mostly because it would have been impossible to mask otherwise!
Here's the mostly finished product - I'll throw up another pic tomorrow when I get it unmasked and pop the silver center cap back in. They actually look darker in person than the pic suggests. It took almost 2 hrs to do the one wheel with alot of careful prep but I'm stoked at how it turned out. I'm getting a bit better at paint work... either that or just more patient with the prep!

Those are gonna look sweet. Did you just use rattle can? what brand/type?
Did you think it was a good idea to leave the balancing weight on there? Isn't it going to start chipping around there when they remove the weight next time?

Looks good...one down three to go. After you finish this set you will be an old pro.:D

I just used duplicolor wheel paint in the rattle can. I cleaned them 2-3 times with degreaser, sanded them with 400 grit, cleaned them again and then wiped them down with grease/wax remover before masking and painting.
I didn't really care too much about the wheel weights, if I took them off they'd only chip the paint going back on so I was screwed either way.

thanks guys. photoshop makes the decision making process alot easier! I'll try to get a full side shot soon, it's harder now that the T/A is taking up the rest of the driveway.
It has to be in the driveway?? wtf? Doesn't it run?? LOL

i like. lookin good.:thumbsupsmiley:
how do you guys keep the lighting/ shadows in the photo shopped image after you apply a different color. that is the biggest thing keeping mine from looking real.
also the wheels look really good. a buddy of mine has a trans am with the same wheels and his are painted flat black. both look good, i think they were just meant to be painted.
You know what I like about this thread?....Rentedmule wants to know what the wheels look like painted, gets an idea...and then goes and does it...himself! Thats what photoshop'n is all about. Not just a "that would look good" but rather "I AM DOING THAT!" Good on ya Rentedmule!!!
