Hey everyone, today my 97 S10 with the 4.3 Vortec is leaking coolant after we minorly fixed the nocking noise coming from the engine. We fix the nocking noise by putting thicker oil and lucas treatment oil.
SO the problem that I'm having now is that my coolant is leaking from the driver side of the engine, mostly to the back. After reading some of the other posts I think it may be the intake manifold going bad.

Its nocking and the engine check light is on,missing a bit, loss of power. Could be a crack in the manifold. My ford had one of those and had it JB welded and its been two years no prob lol. They also bored it out a bit while they ground the JB weld down. Put a edelbrock conversion haha.

The engine light never came on while it was ticking/nocking, and it didn't lose any power it actually got more power but it was still ticking.
I say ticking rather than nocking, my dad calls it knocking. But we did put some 20W 50 oil, Marvel Mystery oil and lucas oil treatment, and it hasn't ticked/knocked since about 4 weeks ago. It has more power than before, thats what it seems like now.
its not missing either.

Oh o not shur if that was a good ideah. The oil might be to thick. maybe you blew a seal from the oil over pressuring the engine not shur. Mike,Joker,or wilside mite know wats up. Could have went with a 10w 30 with lucas full synthetic additive. Thats what I waas told to put in my engine. Sounds like you might have had a loss in pressur before you changed the oil and when you did it blew somethin.
What kind of oil you used? My uncle sells Amsoil oil I can get some info from him.

I was running 10w 30 Castro GTX Anti SLudge motor Oil, before any of the problems happened to my truck.
After we started having problems, thats when we drained the oil, and put MArvel Mystery Top Cylinder Lubrication oil, Lucas Oil Treatment, 15W 40 Rotella Oil.

X2 What mike said. It could be coming from a few different places. If you can find it they make a dye you put in and use a black light to show where it is comming from. Its very hard to tell sometimes because it could run from anywhere and mislead you.

That sounds like what ended up being the down fall of my engine.... mine was leaking from the outlet hose on the manifold. Looking at it, it looked fine, but when I touched it, it just broke off.

Yup. Same thing happened to my buddies 99 Tahoe. The Dexcool eats away at the aluminum when air is in the system and this happened. He had to carefully cot out the remainder of the seized pipe fitting and get another one. Couldve cost him his manifold. I dont care to argue about the DexCool debate anymore. I know what I see. Reguardless if its neglected or not. When I bought my TA, it was in great shape but the coolant had been neglected (green conventional stuff). I flushed it a few times and did new thermostat and hoses. Never once was there a failure to the radiator, manifold fittings or heater core. Ive seen non-neglected DexCool systems fail miserably. Thats why I have douched my coolant system from the getgo and will never go back to that crap. That sounds like what ended up being the down fall of my engine.... mine was leaking from the outlet hose on the manifold. Looking at it, it looked fine, but when I touched it, it just broke off.
