supposedly you have to pull the engine to remove the oil pan. is this true or can the engine stay in the truck?

i've never done it, but from being under my truck enought times i would say that you wouls have to at least undo the mounts and raise it up a bit. why do you need to know?

just tap into the oil cooler lines(assuming you have them)and use a temp. manifold, this is the one i used for my tranny. temp. gauge http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1543&prmenbr=361 should work for oil as well, as long as you know what size the lines are

if u wanna get your oil pan... you do have to loosen the mounts and jack it up a bit. Or.. simply remove the engine. My choice was to just jack it up... saves time and easy to do.

don't we have a plug by the oil filter housing that can be used.
don't we have a plug by the oil filter housing that can be used.
i'll look, but i thinck it has to be drilled and taped
I thinck advance makes a plate to go between the oil filter and block for pressior and temp gauges.
to answer the original quesion. Yes the pan can be removed with out complete engine removale, but the flywheel must be removed and you know what has to happen for that to be removed. plus you have to pull the engine mount bolts and raise the engine about 6".
It's easyer to remove the engine.
