Hello all, Can someone tell me what kind of transmission pan I have shallow or deep? I bought a trans filter and there were two options deep and or shallow for a 01 Blazer 4wd 4.3 litre. I went ahead and got the shallow hoping it was the right one.

I have a 2002 blazer 2wd and my pan is shallow. Its about deep enough for the filter and thats it. My filter hugs the valve body, with yours being 3" tall I would say you have deep pan.

My bad I just went and checked mine and its 3" deep also. I thought it was smaller than that. SORRY. Your pan must be shallow.

When I had my filter changed it didn't have any extension or anything on it.

As long as your sure thanks for the help. You would think that the vin # would have something in it to tell what exactly you have. The guy at the Auot Zone had no clue.

I thinck it's only a quart differnce, but i'm not sure. I have a deep pan and it only takes 7qts

2 1/4 I thinck. any wat it's only an inch differnce in the deep and shallow pans. I just replased my trans fluid last week and the guys at advance had the mesurments in there computer.

*now I must rant about unfair price gouging to have your fluid changed
30 bux dyi price VS 115 bux shop price. I was told they would have to charge xtra to replase to filter(like 25 bux more)
I don't really care if a small amout of fluid gets left in the cooler and TC so I did it myself. People have been doing trannys in their driveways for years without damageing the tranny. Why all the sudden is it so impotant to pay up to 200bux to have you whole system back flushed by a machine and them told you don't need a filter because the machine cleans 95% of the trash out of the filter while only useing 3 gals of to fluid plus the original 5-7qts already in the tranny to do it???????
This is BS. You need a new filter not to mention gasket. You have to remove the pan to properly change fluid else you cant see if any shaveing or the pan. shavings+ problem. Have you looked at the filter GM uses? It's a cheap peise of crap. Mine was actually beging to rip.
30 bux vs 115(plus 25 more if I want a new filter)
I didn't fall off the banana truck yesterday
*end rant*

Since we are on the subject of transmission pans, would it be better to run a cast aluminum pan with cooling fins versus a transmission cooler? I am going to be changing torque converters in a few weeks and was just thinking about changing to a different pan while I was there.

the pan will help, but they all say if you up the stall you should allways run a cooler!hell my truck has 2 factory coolers(oil&trans)and i have installed the summit duel cooler setup on top of the factory ones.iy's a great deal for $100,you get a remote oil filter and everthing else you need.

Ok, here is my question. My truck has 114xxx miles on it right now and I am thinking of replacing the filter. I have always heard that on older trans's you shouldnt mess with it, and just have it flushed because the varnish is helping it out or something like that. I used to work in a shop, so the trans has been flushed once or twice, in its life time. Should I replace the filter and if i do, i assume i will have to get a new pan gasket. if i replace the filter and all of the fluid will it stop the tiny amount of slippage I have? and what oil or combo should I use, maybe 2/3's valvoline maxlife trans fluid and 1/3 B&M trickshift? (I would go all trickshift, but I heard it isnt good for it, is this true?) thanks guys
