There may be a post on here about this but I'm having to temporarily use dial up connection and don't have the patience to do a sloooow search. But anyway my question is: is the block from a 1983 2.8 the same as a 90 or 91 2.8? What I'm wondering is will the intake and fuel injection from the 90 or 91 2.8 fit on a carbed 1983 2.8? Anybody know?

1986 and older blocks have smaller mains than a 87 and newer, its a weak point in the block. Also the entire front cover and water pump and stuff is different on 82-85, 86, 87-93. The first batch uses v-belts, 86 is a bastard year and uses both v and a serp, 87-93 is a total serp belt. Everything can be swapped around on them as the mounting bosses are the same but its easier and more of an upgrade to use 87-93 blocks with the serp setup, bigger mains, and the TBI unless your just stuck on carbs.
From what I can tell your looking to put a 83 block in your 90 truck, although it can be done I would try to stay clear of it. Also something you might wanna look into is a 3.4 (or 3.1) out of a camaro. Its a 60 degree like the 2.8 so everything will bolt up but they are bigger.

Yeah you're basically right, the 83 runs the 90 doesn't ( knocks). I was wanting to take the 83 motor and just put all the 90 TBI, belts etc. on it and put it into the 90 truck. Even though the 83 is different you are saying it will work? like the TBI intake will fit the 83 engine? or would I have to swap heads? I'm good at "making" things fit. My last truck was a 69 GMC c10 with a caddy disc brake rear end, caddy tail lights, caddy door panels with power windows and door locks, 2nd gen Camaro gauges in the stock dash cluster, 4 square caddy headlights to replace the factory 4 round ones, and the list goes on. So I don't have a problem "modifying" if necessary. Read my sig. :)

nope...wont work. i have a 2.8 in my 93 and when i got it the 93 motor in it had a rear main seal leak and losing compression on one cylinder. the motor in it now is a 88. i think that or a 86 is the lowest year you can go with the 2.8 cuz they changed the design in one of those years...and why the hell did i not think of puttin the 6o degree camaro engine in my truck...damnit cameron.

Only big design change I can think of is in the clutch. The older ones had a linkage clutch and the newer ones had hydro clutch so they don't have the bosses to bolt the older clutch on (but neither do the 3.4). The design changes in 86 was the mover to serp belt, tbi, bigger mains, and one piece main seal. I also think this is the year they improved the oiling and clutch but not 100% sure. The motor will bolt over, I would use the newer heads cause they have a small flow increase. If you go to www.60degreev6.com they know way more about these than I do. I'm mainly a v8 guy and my old truck was a 69 gmc, lol.
As far as I have ever seen, the differences are as follows. The clutch bosses as mentioned, and in 86.5ish they went to the larger diameter main journals. You can unbolt the heads and intake and swap them over to the 83. The Carb heads you have suck, the TBI heads are the same ones used on the fieros and camaros for a while, not too bad of a flowing head.

Well I have now found out that the 91 truck is really a 86 model. mine is an 83 model both are 2.8 V6 mine is auto the 86 is 5 speed. so will the 86 intake an TBI fit on my 83 engine?

Intakes swap out but your gonna want the increased flow of the FI heads.
