You cold do a G80 locker or something like that. Limited Slips arent real great off roading where the articulating of the wheels is a factor

Can i put a spool or mini spool in the back?

Do like Mike said and put a g80 out back.

yes you can and in my opinion thats better b/c if you have a locker i the front and bind up the front or hit something under the mud you cant see and both wheels are turning you are morelikely to break something. if you have a L/S or open front which ever wheel hits something will stop turning and not break a axle or something else.

what all can a g80 come out of and be swapped into our trucks? or, more specifically in my case, my 89 2wd?

Any 7.5/7.625 differental if you have that one. In your case you do. There are some spline differences in the axles on some models. Some vehicles with the .5 diff are S-series, Astro/Safari vans, 80s Regals/Cutlass/Monte/GP and F-bodies 3rd and 4th Gen. I think the Fbods changed around 85/86 in the spline count. Others youll need to research.
