Hello . I was wondering if any body knows how to customize there s-10 dash, I have seen many on street source mag for s-10s but no one tells how they do it. I've seen the material stretched over and painted (I think the paint would peel off the vinyl ) So if any body knows, I am interested. because my dash is real plain (1991)

Painting requires an adhesion promoter and primer base to stick. Some people fiberglass. Depends on what you want to do. Keep it stock looking with a different color or do some new design all together?

On a dash or anything soft I would glass it to keep the paint from cracking. The hard plastic panels can just be sanded down and painted tho.

Grill fabric is your friend when it comes to glassing a dash. If you glass it don't do any more then 2 layers or it will build up and parts won't fit correctly.

One thing you never here about is the glare on the windshield. It's horrible with a painted dash.

what is it exactly you wanted to do, just paint it? If so check this out... I no its not a s-10 but it is an option if you dont wanna remove the dash.

You are incorrect sir......Spandex is the choice of the big boys, due to it being able to be stretched really tight and not rip....

and I agree 2 layers if it is just cosmetic....But 4 or more if it is structual..(sp)

And "Fusor" products are used for plastic filling or bonding....:)

It just depends on how extravagant you want to get. Glass is definately good since it bonds to nearly every thing. As far as layer thickness, I didn't have any issues butt...

I peeled all of the vinyl and foam from the stock plastic frame and built from scratch. The other positive of going that nutz, the dash will definately be out of the vehicle at some point and it's a great oportunity to buy a whole heap of space behind it which is great for hiding the gizmos that accumulate.
