I'm trying to get a gauge on what kind of life expectancy I have with my Blazer. It's a '98 model with right at 129k miles on it and I maintain all of my vehicles extremely well. I luckily have a 4-year unlimited mileage extended warranty that I got with it when I bought it. So I still have a little over 3 years left on the warranty. All of the little nagging things I've done myself, like belt tensioner replacement, balljoints, coolant flush, etc. But the bigger things (fuel pump, rear differential failure, and transmission rebuild) I had shops do so that I could claim those under the extended warranty.

Anyways, I'm just trying to find out who has closer to, or possibly more than 200k miles on their S10's? Any of the '95+ models with high mileage? What minor issues and major problems have you had?

I think in about 2-3 years as my warranty is getting closer to running out, I will be shopping for an '04+ V8 4Runner... The reliability on these domestics leaves something to be desired (I'm honestly afraid to take the Blazer more than ~150 miles from home).

When I was working changing oil, we had an early 2nd gen come in with well over 250,000 miles on it. It was actually closer to 300,000 than it was 250,000. I have no idea how well maintained this truck was, but I can tell you we changed the oil in it every 2,000 miles, or about every other week.

I only have 102k on my '98, but haven't had to do any major work, just the normal oil changes, tuneups, etc. I expect this to last around 10 years minimum with however many miles I clock on.

My 94 L35 Sonoma that I bought new and sold a few years ago is now over 250k on the original drivetrain. It's never seen anything but Mobil 1 and 93 octane.

My 1994 S-10 Super Sport has 160,000 miles. I drive it very hard, however, I also maintain it well. I have replaced injectors, shocks, center link, steering shaft, alternator, EGR Valve, fuel pump, heater fan motor, heater fan switch, a few bulbs, four distributor caps, five front brake jobs, One rear brake job, two complete dual exhaust systems and many, many fluid swaps. I've ran Castrol Syntec since oil change #1. I would drive my truck anywhere. It still runs like a scalded dog. Still looks real respectable also. It is the best vehicle, I have ever owned.

My '97 4.3 has 121k on it and it is a worthless heap of ****. Been in the shop 8 times since june '04, and I have well over the purchase price in repairs. Stay away from domestic crap. All Yota for me from here on out.

8 times in 5 months and it's still acting up. consider this: your mechnic is ripping you off or your not giveing them enough info when you bring it in, but that's why forums like this are setup. To help with issues so U don't get shafted.
this goes for all those who read this every day, but never post up. There's is no such thing as stupid questions and not all answers are right, but you never know till you ask or answer.

As for domestic pos. lighten up on your truck, It's done it's job, it's old and deserves a little tlc.121K out of moded engine isn't bad and I assume at your age you bought the truck used., so you really don't know what the previous owner did to it on a daily basis.this is what you can exspect at 100-150K out of any vehicle. Tranny problems, cooling system breakdown, blown gaskets, supension issues, u-joints, fuel system issues. Mechanical parts waer out. it's just part of owning a vehicle. You've got an s-10 parts are cheap and abundant. Most yota are somewhat american built so they'er midrange in price when it comes to breakdowns, but imports on the outher hand are exspensive when they get old. Would you rather own a honda. you thinck bringing your s-10 into the shop is exspensive wait till a timming belt breaks on a forign car just shy of 60K because you didn't change it at 50K. what do charge now around 300 to change the timming belt and it's a maintnance issue so warrenty dosen't cover it. Snap the belt and your going to need at the least a valve job, but it normally cracks the head.

Well my S10 just recently clicked 200k on it.I think it has 202k and some change on it now.It still runs great doesn't burn any oil and can still roast the tires.I bet yours will go over 200k if you keep good maintenance on it.

Mabey, mabey not. My family has owned nothing but american cars over the years, and they are nothing but trouble. My dad babys his cars too, and gets routine maintenance done on or before schedule. I have heard nothing but good about toyota.

The 4.3 is just like the chevy smallblocks they have a very long life.Just look at all the people on here and how high the mileage are on them that are still running great.Yes back in the 80's and a few 90's GM had some trouble out of their vehicles. But most if not all were the 4 bangers that they were still trying to perfect.Hell most all domestic car makers got a bad rap on quality because of their 4 and some 6 cylinder front wheel drive cars. They tried to play catch up with imports who had been making econo 4 bangers for awhile. You can't say that american car makers had that same kind of trouble out of their V8's, in line 6's,90 degree v6's, and even diesels.Just look how many miles they would go.And in my opinion the smallblock 350 and the Ford 300 straight six were two of the strongest and most durable engines ever made.Just ask us some of us old school grease monkeys here.I have a old 72 flatbed chevy with a 327 with way over 200k on it and I can go out there right now and hit the switch and it will fire right up and idle as smooth as a kitten.Fuel efficient 4 bangers was a new concept for the big 3 back in those days. They all 3 had trouble building a car to compete with the imports. But you can't say the same thing today.GM's ecotec engines are some of the best designed 4 bangers on the market. The playing field for economy and quality is so tight anymore you just can't say one car maker is better than another one. They all have some great quality cars and they all have some that have problems and recalls.

i work at an autoparts store and i see all kinds with over 300000 km which is roughly around 187000 miles but it is usually from well maintained engines... but of course there is exceptions to every rule!

my 93 just hit 110,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil yet (knock on wood). I'm not sure what the guy before me had done with the truck but I beat the crap out of it so I keep up on my maintaince. i've put like 25 thousand miles on it in like a year and the only things I've replaced are the altinator and fuel pump. plus i did a tune up when i got the truck (plugs, wires and stuff).

My dad babys his cars too,

what's the worst thing you can do a car?

carbon, mildew caused by moistur, rusted exhaust, corosion, dryrot, leaking seals and gaskets, these are all things you find in a car owned by littel old ladys who only drove to church on sundays. Babying a car car is one of the worst things you can do to a car. Just like you it needs to exercise or it's get's out of shape real fast.

Not the best of things to say on a DOMESTIC truck forum. Kind of contradicts the screen name as well.

But, on to the topic at hand: my first S-10 was an '84 -- it's still on the road and has over 400K miles on it. It's needed normal maintenance as well as an alternator, starter and clutch. Other than that, it's a rusted-out POS, but it RUNS every day. Not much for power, but it gets my friend from one place to another whenever he needs.
