so after 15k on a $350 rebuild... it seem si need to do some trans work along with my engine project. I love my 5 spd.... but again.. decisions decisions... would you folks do an AWD automatic, 4wd 5spd, or totally frankenstien the project and do a 5spd AWD ;)
i can build/buy all three secnerio's for about the same $$ with parts i have that are useable and those that are rebuildable so budget really doesnt come into play here.
My buddy here (trans specialist) who's helping me with the project is trying his damnest to get me to do the Auto AWD swap and i'm lookin for a good excuse to keep my 5 spd since i looked SOOOO long for a 4x4 1st gen blazer or jimmy with a stick shift hehehe.
mostly lookin for opinions guys... any thoughs would be appreciated.

5 or 6 speed AWD. NV3500 is a POS from what I have read on the forums so maybe look for something to swap in.
Autos are for drag racing and old women!

yea.. if i stay with the 5 spd.. i'm going to a Borg Warner t-5. Mostly because of cost, but also because of hp/torque handling. I'd love to do a t56 but just dont have an extra $2k to put into this project... maybe later heh
I know a GM trans specialist - and his take on the nv3500.... they're an incredible trans - IF AND ONLY IF - you can tweak all the bugs out.

ahhh I'd stay away from the t-5's. Well they'll probably handle good for a 4.3 but when i did the 350 swap with my camaro i blew 3 up in a row...rebuild twice and the third was a new one...well the 350 wasn't stock but still no miss shifts and i was blowin the countershaft to pieces and gears were shredded

T-5 wont be able to handle the torque (if your going to drive it hard) AWD has lots of traction, and when you grip that hard, usually the weakest link is gonna snap. Unless your planning on REALLY beefing this tranny up.
T-56 wont bolt up to the Transfer case without some major $$$ for adaptation
just go with a 4x4 700r4, 4x4 4l60e, 4x4 th350, 4x4 th400, or the 4x4 4l80e.
Its the easiest, most cost effective route. If your looking for complete control of your shift points, why not go with a manual valve body?
im with white s10. Go with the 4l60 awd setup. Youre not gonna bust the tranny with the 4.3hp numbers (even extreme cases)
