I know this should be in the show and shine section, but I didn't feel like posting the same thing in each section.

It's getting cold and the wheather is starting to change for the worst in most areas of north america and for those who have nice rims or their every day driver it's time to put on your winter shoes(hope you kept your stockers) So what do you do with the show rims when you take them off for winter stowage.
Well first off you need to clean all the impuritys off the metal or you endup with black spots an peeling crome come sping. For those off you with polished uncleared rims this is very improtant. this is a perfect time to polish your rims, but that will do no good if you don't protect them with something like a good wax. i use regular old tuttle wax in the green to protect billet and aluminum peises that get taken off for the winter months. I then wrap them in tissue paper for added protestion. The tissue paper works fine for my grill, but you can exactly do that with tires.
Ohhh tires....I'm sure most of you know what dryrot is. so what to do with the tires. well you need to protect them as well. this includes cleaning them and applyed a good rubber conditioner like eagle one tire black or even armorall.
stowage....... check your pressior and make sure there are no leaks in the tire. if so have them pluged(hopefully you did this before polishing your rims and cleaning the tires). now as most of know when you stack the fully conditions tires sometimes the rubber conditioner will run and you have to spend the first part of summer getting the black stain off your rim. for those of you who store the tire in the coner of you room you know what this dose to carpet . this is a simple fix. go to the hrdwar store and get a cheap welcome mat to set the tire on. put wax paper in between each tire as you stack them. To keep dust and nicoten (for those who smoke) from settleing on the tires I recomend covering the tires with an old blan. u-haul has the best blankets for this. you just have to borrow them without them knowing about it.

for those of you with oversized brakes U can get a cheap set a wagon wheels for winter use. I've seen them in up to 22" rims with various backspaceings. 25-75 bux a rim ain't bad either considering how much you payed for your dress shoes.

For those of you who have a better half and don't want to hear her nag you about the carefully plased and protected tires and rims. you can actually use them as end tables by stacking them 2x2 puting a small round peise of plywood on top, covered in one those frilly decrative things they like so much, with a nice lamp in the center.

If you store your show rims correctly, when spring comes around you shouldn't have to do much than wipe them off with a dry rag and they'll look like they did when you bought them. now you can laugh at your neibor on your way to the beach while he's bent off scrubing and polishing his rims because he left them on all winter.
