View Full Version : Sun Roof & Extended Cab S-10's
has anyone put in a sun roof?
id think there would be enough room for one, just wondering what kind people might have put in and where they got it done and cost and if it could be a do it yourself job. (not that i want to be responsible for cutting that gaping hole into my truck)
pictures would be awesome.

My 89 Black Cameo came with a sunroof. It's a standard cab and it is just a pop up not power slide roof.:D

Your Cameo came with a sunroof???
I didn't know any pickups had sunroofs from the factory.
Why doesn't my truck have one
I'm taking it back to the dealer first thing in the morning and complaining!

I have had it for 3 years and no leaks. The rubber aound the outside top is really hard and broken up, but the inner seal that seals to the glass is perfect. The only thing I have to do is make sure it is pushed all the way foward when I close it or the front left corner will raise up just enough to let some water by. Thats it!:D I had an 88 5.7 Iroc and the t-tops always leaked, but only a drip or two in a hard or long rain and of course the car wash.

hummmmmm.... out of the 9 cameros ive had 4 had t-tops they all leaked not when sitting just when driving....after a long rain I would start it and reverse out then as I accellerate away it would pee right on my lap! loved the car when the weather was good. :)

On my Iroc only the passenger side leaked and only on the back corner. I kept a towel on the seats in the rear and the pass side would just get a little damp. I loved the car. It was great for parking lot doughnuts!:D

I couldn't count how many F bodies I have owned with T tops and out of them all only 2 leaked. And just a few drops here and there and the car wash made a few messes. But I had a 82 Mustang GT that had T tops and that damn thing was like a sprinkler system when it rained.A few different vehicles with a Sunroof I think 3 leaked some.It comes with the enjoyment of the open air I guess.

Am I crazy or did GM do a S10 concept with T-tops??
Anyone else remember this? Might have been the xtreme concept.

I opt for no holes. My TA has T-tops which are cool when sunny...but suck ass when it rains.
ZRX Sonomas had OEM power sunroofs. Beyond that are just crews and suvs with it factory.

Never made it. Thats the only one. I have a pic of it too. Cars and Concepts I think did that one. No longer in business. They also did some 3rd Gen F-body t-tops. The C and C T-tops in the 3rd gen F-Body had apop up feature like a sunroof and could also be removed like a t-top. My TA has the std ASC T-tops.

im thinging of altering my sonoma and install a targa top, the best way to discribe it is one big t-top. I would make it a convertable but its an extended cab and that would be HeAvY!! even if it was fiberglass!! anyone know how to do that?!

I "thing" that's not a good idea.
Very few people that try the homemade convertible/removable top end up with something that looks or functions decently.

I put in my own sunroof. It's easy. Just measure and mark the center of the roof (front to back) and line up the template. Tape the template down and start cutting. Never leaked in 7 or so years but I decided I didn't like it any more so I cut the roof off and welded a new one on.
The only pic I could find.

The welding was easy, then I chopped an 1.5" out.
This is the thread about the accident, I explain it in post #5 and #7.

I wanna do something to the roof....i cut the top of a standard cab and it worked out great except the door window top postes. it leaked in heavy rain....don't want to do that to the extended caqb thought. i'm thinking of making it a walk thought and getting a topper aswell, then my kids could have a REAL bench seat back there and be more comfy. its reaslly a toy and the only time it will get wet is when I wash it. but why make it a walk thought and make more room if it just a toy right?! im biggining to think i'll never be happy!!!! :) bummer about the wreck, but atleast your ok, and we have one less import on the road :)
