ever since i got my truck about 5 months ago it has had a whining noise at first i thought it was the power steering pump. which made sence because i had trouble turning at low RPMs and the fluid was low. so i replaced the pump and it took care of the hard turning and the whine while the truck was in park but once i put it in drive or reverse it gets a whine any ideas on what that could be it sounds like its coming from the tranny or transfer case

Oh the thoughts of what it could be. Can you make the whine go away when turning??? If when you turn it lessons or increases and decreases from side turn to side turn , its your wheel bearings.
Constant and slow speeds kinda dull but increase slightly at higer speeds, rear axle bearing of pinion and or carrier bearing. I have a growl whine going on for about 2 months I havent pinned completely down and I'm not all to worried about it since its in the rear and no leaks are present. No leaks is and indication its not the axle bearing cause when they go, 98% of the time you lose the outer seal and your brake pads will let you know its gone when they grab like a MOFO. Carrier and pinion bearing which is more than likely my culprit, I'm not to overly worried about unless it gets louder. Ive seen whiny carrier and pinion bearing last 10's of thousands of miles making noise!!

OK, sounds like a automatic problem to me then and I'm not a Auto person.
Jake I guess this ones for you!!!! Sounds like it could be a flex plate problem or something!
