View Full Version : best handling
what size tire and rim will make an s10 handle the best. I've heard a 17" rim is the best size but I'm not sure. and what about a tire how wide and what aspect ratio should I get.

Well, a small aspect ratio will reduse flex for inproved handling, however for ride you won't want to go smaller then a 40. A wider tire will also in prove handling. I'd go with a 17X8 wheels in the front and 17X10 in the rear with some 50 tires.
the only prob is I have a 4 wheel drive so I got to keep the rims the same all the way around. do you think I could get an 8 1/2 to 9 inch wide rim on the front if I get the right off set. do you think I could get a 265/50r17 on the front. the tire comes out to be a little shorter than stock but it will be wider.

Well then just go with 17X8 all around. Any wider on the front will rub. Also anything wider with 4WD isn't needed.
Do you have any other mods for inproved handling like lowering and anti-sway bars? If not then your want some with all the extra weight.
it is lowered but I dont have a rear sway bar yet. I have factory front right now but I am going to get belltech sway bars front and rear. the back is lowered with 2" blocks right now but I am going to get 3" drop leafs. also getting drop shocks. I'm not 100% sure yet but when the season comes I'm gonna sell the motorcycle and use most of the money for the truck.

Whats the widest tire (same size all the way around) that can be put on the Blazer 2-door, 2WD? I have 245/50/16 on it now. Would I have to get different rims that stick out a little farther?

This is a trick ?think about most race cars, how many have low profile tire!very few.why becuase the suspension is very stiff to stop the car from draging at high speeds(aero down force) and to stop body roll in the corners(there are more reasons for a stiff suspension)but becuase of these reasons for the car to grip the track while say going through a corner with small bumps, the car NEEDS some sidewall to grip the track.there is so much more to it but thats the best i can do right now.
anyway i run 255/40/17 on 17x8 wheels, and the fronts do rub just a tiny bit.you might be able to go more, but i have 3.5+ inch's of drop in the front and if i go any lower the tire's hit the fenders in cornering!

Ive got 245-50-16 with a 8" rim and the tires will stick to the road without squealing around hard corners. that size seems to be very stable for my truck.
16 on front 17 rear. you need more flexabilty in the front..............but you have a 4x4......unless you have an all wheel drive, your going to get body roll and loose steering no matter what you do. It's part of the design of the vehicle to keep you stabile on uneven terrain, busting tierods, and bounceing into a roll.
I mentioned 4 wheel drive and allwheel drive. for those who don't know there is a diffence.4x4s are made for rough terrain not street performance you'll this on blazers, jimmys and pickups. If you had a highend bravada you may have the all wheel drive with is not ment for all terrain use; although it dose do a pretty good job offroad.
the differnce here is 4x4s are usaly either open(actually 2 wheel if you thinck about it), limited sllip(diverts power to wheel that's not sliping), or locked( constant 4 four wheel when 4x engaged)
all wheel is a bit differnt. On a true all wheel you basicaly have a tranny for each wheel that independantly controls each wheel for thereticly perfect traction.
