i was thinking about just doing shackles but as i looked at them it looks like they are at a pretty severe angle. I know longer shackles will bring it up some but i think i want to address the actual problem... Springs. Add a leafs? thoughts, feelings, other options? Any preffered brands, i just dont want the ass way up in the air, it needs to stay level.

Deadlifts will firm it right up.

seriously though, i know there are several different companys that sell add a leaf kits just wondering which ones people have had experience with and would recommend. I think instead of going with a big lift to clear all the rubber, i want to keep it just over stock heighth (kinda like it is now) and trim the body to fit. I love the look of the cut fenders (gonna glass in everywhere i trim) combined with the low lift and big tires. But i definitly need to do sumthing about the typical ZR2 sag....

The add-a-leaf makes the rear end really stiff and bouncy as hell.

I would do shackles.

Thats what i would like to do as well, however my shackles are already almost horizontal. I havent compared them to other S10s but most of my leaf sprung vehicles in the past the shackles have been mostly upright. I guess what im getting at is with the angle of the shackles will the extended ones actually give me any benefit?

you can go to a junkyard and find used s10 springs for pretty cheap. Otherwise AALs would be my next advice. IMO, dont bother trying to put a bandaid on a broken part with shackles or even AALs for that matter.

I thought it was only the BlaZeR2's that had saggy butts?? But if you do, I guess you do.

X2- for what Keith said. I did AAL on my blazer, and let's say the rear is a bit more stiff now.

I still think shackles would provide some benefit. Can you get pics of your shackles in their current state? If they are almost horizontal now, I'm curious if they are doing there job--does your rear end feel really stiff?

After looking at them again i might have exaggerated a bit, but they are definitly within 45 degrees of of horizontal, much more angle than what i am used to seeing as far as pics i am at work right now so it will be at least this eve. before i can get any

I added 2" lift shackles to my Blazer ZR2 and it leveled it right out.

When I read what you are saying, it sounds like you may have worn out springs. If the bottom of the shackle is pushed rearward, I would assume your leaf is lost alot of it's spring tension causing the sag. It may be time for new/used springs.

yup exactly... I was under the assumption thats what happen with blazers as well and if it is, is there a reason you went with shackles as opposed to replacing springs?

The shackles will pretty much maintain the ride you have now, and they are rather easy to install...

Yes, it's probably just a bandaid for your truck. But, $70 and 1.5 hours max work as opposed to far more money and hours under your truck. I too prefer to do the job right the first time but since it was just a bit of sag on mine the shackles were the appropriate fix for me.

I have the same problem with my 99'. Ever since I decided to carry a yard of dirt which left the rear bumper about an inch off the ground, they haven't been the same. Definitely a difference in ride quality too. Feels like the rear end has no play at all.
I can't seam to find any place in Houston that sells new/reman springs. GM springs are $250 each. If I can't find a place, I'll end up getting the GM springs.

I also thought it was only the blaZeR2's with the saggy rears. My Z doesn't sag. But then again it has real low miles yet. Going to hit 50k soon though :-[

My @$$ ain't dragging on the ground like a monkey with hemorrhoids yet, and I'd like to keep it that way. I was always carrying around lots of heavy stuff last year, set of tires, floor jack, fluids, tools. Noticed my rear end was low. I've got some old manual-fill air shocks from the previous owner (my buddy), and I checked their pressure, very low (50 p.s.i). Should be within the 75-200 p.s.i range and I usually keep it around 125-175. Brought it to 150, still sagging. Shocks are 5+ years old now, so going to replace all shocks. But seeing this thread, ahh, maybe need new leaf springs too.

So where can we get ZR2 leaf springs?

yeah, his truck has a few more miles than that...

i've seen the schakle trick work on a few fords, but i was always a bit skeptical. Dad has always just ponied up for new springs, he says the best place for cost to quality ratio is a place in Dubuque.

Cant wait to see the big red on the road again!

imo shackles is just a patch job. They are ok for just a little sag or some lift on good springs. Junk yard springs you will have the same problem. The real fix is new springs. If you do the shackles on bad spaings you will force the springs to ride on the overload spring and give you a hard ride. The other thing is if you have bad springs and use shackles it could throw the pinon angle out.

So where can we get ZR2 leaf springs?

Check with your dealer (obviously expensive), or check LMCtruck.com

Otherwise, see if there is a place locally that specializes in automobile springs. there is one here in town.

picture is decieving, the driveway is ramped.
As, theres currently a jetski in the back of the truck, also helping with the sagging rear.
