i cant find it or where it was cut from. im a very experienced mechanic but this has me stumped. i bought this 98 s10 repo with a bad engine, i replaced the engine fired it up and it ran great when i went to reset the check engine light BAM no obd port any ideas, short of getting a wiring diagram and a junk yard plug i have no idea any thoughts

Wow. Mine is in the usual spot. Driver side under the dash. Maybe Mike or Sparky can help you with the wiring.

That makes sense if you have a 5 speed. My cousin had a '98 with a 5 speed and we got 28 mpg going 75 on a roadtrip to Indiana. The highest I've got is 25 driving 60. That's coasting to a stop, coasting down hills, etc. Before I did all my mods I could only get 21 mpg.

ODB2 plug on a 98-up is attached to the drivers underdash hush panel with 2 7mm screws. Wires from it shoot up to a harness. Did you find the end that had been cut off or just cant locate it? Its possinle someone moved it....maybe to attach a scanner sub-permenently or something. But it cant go far =)

been all under the dash, had the cluster and panel under the column out not even a sign of a clipped wire. guess ill go to the junk yard get a harness an a haynes manual and put it back in

You better invest in something better than a Haynes manual if you want good wiring diagrams.

Oh yes. Most scanners typically sold & used today are meant for the OBDII system. As for this other guy's problem... I can't think of why it wouldn't be there unless it's hidden behind some of the trim somehow by a previous owner's efforts.
