got some pictures of my .45 cal kentucky long rifle replica today
purchased this gun years ago from a friend of the family going thru a nasty divorce - couldnt stand to see it be sold at auction.
it is a slightly modernized replica, but no complaints - it still maintains the natural beauty, accuracy & balance they were known for :)
it has been updated to a standard nipple percussion cap firing system instead of the flint/pan model typical of an actual period correct weapon.
it also features the ability to use Pyrodex smokeless powder - although i do perfer good old FFFg Black powder.
also out of sheer lazyness i use poly patches instead of waxed/greased cloth

Nice. I had thought about getting a black powder rifle for deer season. Neighbor has a .50 cal and seems to do pretty well with it each year.
Always wanted to get a 1860 Army revolver .44 cal. Cabela's is just down the road from me. Maybe next winter.

Nice smokestick.
Love blackpowder! That was the first explosive I ever mixed on my own. Wasn't easy getting a source of good potassium nitrate at the age of 12.
Never owned a blackpowder gun though, that's pretty cool!

Real nice. I've got one I built. It's at my dad's house right now. I'll get some pics up sometime. I've also got a T/C Hawken .50 cal that I've killed several deer with. I love the grey smoke.

I've owned that rifle for around 14 or 15 years now and have put hundreds of rounds thru it. I've taken squirrle, rabbit, several possum, and the occassional racoon that happened to wander to my bait piles as i was leaving for the night hehehee. Needless to say its a fanstic shooting gun but I've never even shot at a deer with it. Just an overly picky shot type of person and i have a one shot one kill rule i follow. It usually helps that by muzzle loading season i've already got my buck in the freezer and the antlers hanging so i'm only out there for a trophy animal :P

couldnt have said it better myself - reliable stable and dependable - even if usin em can be a bit of a smoky proposition

to much work for me lol. I follow the 1 shot 1 kill moto also but I shoot a single shot .270 w/ bipods for those longs shots:) I wouldn't mind gettin my hands on a T/C muzzle loader but eh we'll see what happens. Good luck with your upcoming muzz hunt. Hope you bag a big one

we've only harvested two large racked bucks off our ground over the years. My bro has a georgeous 10 point that'd make your eyes buldge, same with dad's 8 pointer thats on the wall. It just seems that every other year or so one of the old timers in our herd goofs up :P
All of my deer have been w/in 125 yds - better than half have been w/in about 40-50yds. There's only a few locations on our property that you can shoot in excess of 300 yds so my .30-06 does just fine :D I almost went with the Remington 700bdl .270 myself, but didnt because i wasnt planning any really long shots and i like the lil extra punch. hehehe
