Different axles???????

Hey guys i needed to get something clarified.
I am sure i know right but just want to make sure, Ok a buddie bought a blazer rear with the g80 and discs on it. So he finds out that the axle is bad... SUCKS!@!@! But he is having the chevy dealership do the work and they were tryin to tell him that the rears that have the g80 and the ones that dont have different axles in it?!?!?!?
I was saying they are all the same as long as they are 28 spline, am i right?

Same axles within the Differental. Be sure they arent trying to replace the entire accembly and saying a differental is an axle. Most people dont 'term' the parts seperately and just generalie it.

Axle Tube

Carrier
Ring Gear
Pinion Gear
Center Section/Chunk/Pumpkin

Those are the main basic peices.

Yeah no problem.
Sometimes the terminaology gets skewed. May not tbe the case ,but the actual axle is the same lenght and spline no matter what carrier you have. Im assuming its a 7.5/7.625 rear also. Now the ZR2s had a longer axle but same spline count. Those were 8.5 diffs. Early year 7.5/7.625s had a different spline count, but that shouldnt be the case with this.
Just as an example about the terminology : I went to the parts dept at the dealer once wanting the upper console pocket for my truck. I called it a pocket, cubby or storage tray. They called it a BIN. Umm...OK. =) hehehe
