I have only just purchased this truck, its in great shape for the shape its in,
with a few minor problems:
I need a few parts and have no idea where to find them.
1. a latch for the OEM sliding back window, latch was missing at purchase
2. the S10 badge on my passenger door is missing
3. I need the lever assembly for the seat recliner mechanism

I appreciate any and all help in resolving these issues with my truck.
I will try to get some pictures of it and post for the world to see

but heres a mental image of it for you, nothing fancy

black with silver pinstripes down sides
31x10.50 all terrain tires on OEM aluminum wheels
cat back dual exhausts with chrome 2 1/2 in tips

Hello & Welcome to the Planet! Is your truck a ZR2? That's the stock tire size for them, that's why I ask.

As for the missing passenger side badge, I'd say remove the rest of them, truck looks much more clean that way!

Can't wait to see pics!

Welcome to the planet!

The latch I'm thinking dealer or junkyard. Is it a riveted part?

The lever I'd recommend this fixer part since I've heard of a lot of people having that problem, you might be able to find a cheaper price. I just googled s10 seat lever and took the first result
http://www.wittydeals.com/product_info.php?ad=froogle&products_id=73&mfg_id=1&model_id=2

And for the badge, my opinion is remove that one from the other side, too. Otherwise dealer or ebay.

We'd love to see some pics!

Welcome.

You should be able to find all those parts on ebay.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. But yet, definitely a ZR2

Tink, I'm in a little run down town called South Boston, about 30 miles east of Danville on highway 58

TAC ... what I meant was insert my picture in the body of the reply section as opposed to an attachment

Quite a bit farther South then I am - just NW of Richmond.

I think there is a thread in the Open forum that explains how to post pictures....

I think you did it right, but it posted it as an attachment b/c of the size. I'm not sure what the size limit is, but if they're smaller they will appear right in line with the text instead of as a thumbnail to click on.

I'm gonna use this thread to log in all of my maintenance and other stuff I do to the truck

So I made an appointment at a local front end shop last Friday for today at 11:00 am
My truck wanted to drift left and had about 4 inches of freeplay in that direction before the tires would start to respond....
they found the ball joint on the passenger side bad, they replaced that
and got my front end back inline and it only set me back $129.00
steering is really tight now and it tracks STRAIGHT down the road

I'm a happy camper

Now I need to figure out why my AC blows everything in the floor instead of the dash vents ?? Any ideas ??

one of those doors is stuck?

I know that was the most non-technical description ever... there are some vacuum actuated doors that control the flow of air. I've heard sometimes they get stuck open or shut.

Slightly delayed response on my end, but yup, definitely a ZR2 and a nice looking one at that. Glad you got it driving good again!

welcome aboard new my self, suggesting e-bay motors, I usually find most of my parts there after extensive searching.

OK.... Like I mentioned b4,I'm going to use this thread for my truck updates and maintenance...
I was troubleshooting my AC this weekend, since it rained and was unable to ride...
number 1....AC clutch is not engaging
number 2... I could not locate my door actuator switches
number 3... I found no loose or disconnected vacuum lines

my questions are

1. can I change out the clutch without discharging the system ?
2. is it possible the clutch won't engage because the system isn't charged ?
3. should I just take it in to be repaired ?

the clutch seems to be the most expensive part at 150 bucks
whereby the compressor w/ clutch is a tad over 200 bucks

these are Auto Zone prices ... Ebay has them for a lot cheaper but little or
no warranty

OK my mind is clear :hypnotize.... TIA for any suggestions and or help

To answer your second question. If the system isn't charged the clutch will not engage. That is more than likely your prob. Get a pressure gauge from an auto parts store. It should be less than $10.

So I stopped at Auto Zone on the way home and talked to one of the guys that work in there, seems he knows a little something about AC. I told him my troubles and he said "your system is low or empty" So I bought a refill bottle with a gauge,24 bucks,he instructed me how to test the clutch, showed me how to hook up the bottle, etc. So I got home, did as he instructed me to do,got the clutch engaged, hooked the bottle to the low side, the bottle emptied.... and presto chango..... I have air conditioned air
pumping into the cab of my truck..... now whenever it decides to warm up outside,I will be cool in the cab of my little ZR2

So now my AC/heater control switch has quit on me...
luckily I found a salvage yard that has one in stock...
my dash is tore out and waiting for me to make the hour long drive up to Long Island,Virginia to get it ...35 bucks ain't bad... I'm gonna stop by the Chevy dealer on the way to work in a few minutes to get a good laff,I have to know what they want for a NEW one

oldS10dude
04-24-08, 05:58 PM
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA 126 bucks for the entire AC/heat control panel
at the Chevy dealer

I got the entire panel for 35 bucks @ Franks

bad news is the door actuator on the floor will not close when I'm in MAX AC so all my A/C is being blown on the floor .... crap now what ???

The saga never ends... last night I had to go over to the office and pick up some things,on the way over I notice my volt gauge is less than the normal hair to the right of 14..crap... so I take a ride over to Auto Zone this morning.ask the dude if he can check my alternator...oops,looks like you need a new one says he... crap again says I... got the new one installed... cleaned the crap off my battery terminals... turned the switch ... click click was all I got ... son of a %$#@ mother F@#&#% ... borrowed the little wifeys car.. went back to Auto Zone with my old battery ..its four years old and not taking a charge... 1 brand new battery later .. some new bolts and some of that electrical greasy stuff .. truck fired right up .... let it run for awhile..looked at the guage ... crap ... the gauge is half way to where it should be ... maybe the fuse blew... nope fuse is good ....

any of you guys have any ideas ???

Sounds like a beat ground or one of the cables is bad. Also don't rely on the factory gauges. If you have a multi meter check the batt. voltage with that.
