So we got bored this weekend and shot a crap load of ammo. Well my buddies got his .500 s&w revolver and some new 400 grain platnium tipped bullets for it supponsingly they claim they look like a star fish on impact so we had to test this theory. First we took a 55 gallon plastic barrel that was cut in half long ways (used as a feeding trough) and filled it full with water. Considering the size of the bullet and the fact it only moves 1900fps with the 400grain bullet we figured it be enough. *which it was suprisingly)*
Second we made it level to the shooting bench and rested and fired off 2 rounds hoping to find at least one good bullet. We found both bullets intact except one was only the jacket and the other had the jacket and core still intact. The intact one after finding it measured 1 5/8" at peak bend. The jacked bullet we tinkered with to see what would be the max expansion achieved upon impact and it was a outstanding 2 3/8" wide. So roughly it would blow a hole you could see threw the person you shot. Well heres the "star fish" platnitum 400 grain .500 s&w all intact *no tinkering with this intact bullet* I know im workin on getting a good SD capable camcorder to bring to the range and our projects we do bare with me here.
