The speed shop was useing ls1 edit, but after frying a few computers because of an unstable programe they started looking around for something new. I thinck they ended up with tunner cat and haven't had any problems yet. If so I need to talk with them about my comp reflashed for the new intaacke that's hopfully comwing out soon
I never realized that there were so many tuner programs out untill the shop started looking for something new. I thinck they got about 20 demos within a week. Problem was most of them were limited to one maker or just would do something needed. they said the The tunner prog they ended up with is way more versitale that even ls1

At one point I had a list of over 35 different manufacturers from home builts to pros listed for this stuff, but more was either OBD1 or late 2's and very few for the inbetween, but now its a new range so in order to win this market, it better work and good!!

I can't speak for other programmers and editors but I have been using LS1 edit for a little while on my TA and I think it is 100% awesome and completely stable.Well atleast for a Fbody I know for sure.At first I used file settings that friends on LS1edit.com and LS2.com had allready used and had success with. Then I started using my own program settings to match my exact setup. And any questions or mistake you think you will or have made the guys at LS1edit.com have the awnsers and fix to every possible problem.Because atleast one person had come across the same situation. You can almost do anything you want with it.But I suggest if you don't know what your doing use files that are available on LS1edit.com or LS2.com until you get familiar with the software. But I do agree it's about time a full parameter changing programmer was available for early to late 90's OBDII S10.I would like to see some of the options the Tunercat edit is capable of.But I do disagree that LS1edit is not stable.Maybe not for S10's but for LS1 equipped vehicles nothing but success.

I've had no problems with my Edit either and do like what it does allow and its simplicity of use. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone with a factory vehicle since there is really not much gained for the price, but its a nice toy to play with and allows all kinds of possibilites once its all figured out.
But this new deal is a great leap for backyarders with the mid years that didnt offer any type of solution other than a mail in tune which I never did like cause its still generically done so to speak!

Your choice of one Vehicle Definition FileSo, those of us with the "black" OBDII can now do something closer to a custom tune. . . I'm liking that. . . But, the real question is what variables can be edited with the package? How extensive is the tuning capability?

All the info should be on the site. Ive never dealt with them and didnt look into this a whole lot since it doesnt apply to me. I am on mailing lists for all kinds of crap and look at other boards all the time non S series related and when they say something good after Ive received a mailing etc, I just post it up. When I get time then I will look into certian subjects if needed!

I got a email from the guys at carputing the makers of LS1edit/LT1edit.I emailed them about earlier OBDII 4.3 S10's and they said they have 2 they are tuning on right now. They already have several batch files that have dynoed very impressive numbers. They are tuning for stock to heavily modded to have proven files to offer with the software.I hope they get great results to offer because I am a firm believer in their product.I love being able to tune and see what my results are in real time.I ask them to email me with updates on progress or when they are finished so I will post up when I hear some thing.

I'm new to ECM reporgramming and maybe some of you guys could help me out. I do have a hypertech programmer that I bought mainly to give myself the option to increase gas milage and to remove the governor. But I am also pretty computer literate so I'm interested in this idea. I have seen data logging systems that plug into the OBDII (don't remember seeing one for an S-10, do they exist?) I'd like to be able to do this since I run a PC in my truck for the audio/video system. Real time reprogramming would be neat but I dont know if it has any advantage for a stock setup. (my drivetrain is all stock aside from the reprogramming). Some of the options available on the Tunercat website seem like it is way past my knowledge of tuning engines. Another question - what hardware is required to connect a PC to the ODBII? My hypertech programmer came with a cable that plugs in and the other end I assume is a standard serial connection. Is this usable for my purposes? Also - in as plain english as can be said - what are these programs capable of doing/showing?

Auto tap, drive right car chips and others are out there to data log with. Each has its limitations or positives and it doesnt matter whether its a S truck or not. These are made to give data from sensors so vehicle type has no bearing.
They dont offere in the fly tuning changes. Your flashing the bios chips so you dont ever do that with power going to the chips like sensor data etc. What they do, these data loggers first, they allow you to watch later or in real time the sensor informations etc. The autotap windows looks like a dash board, you have a tach, speedo and all kids of gauges that are sensor information. Lets say you do a intake system, first you run and log so you can see the MAF, IAT and map data using the stock system. Then install the air system and relog this data again. If the air system did anything for anything, the data would be different. In this case you would be adding TPS data which I forgot to mention. So after both data log sesssions were over you compare the data looking for changes. If the air system did what is was suppose to, then if you compare the TPS signal from both sessions, you should see when at lets say 3.0 volts TPS on the factory mox the MAF asked for 1 volt, but using the air system it asked at the same tps signal 1.2 volts it saw and increase of air at the same throttle postion which meant it is drawing in more air. Kinda those scenerios but not limited to it. With a Chiltons etc whic has some of this sensor data in it, you could see when having problems which sensor is out of range and how far to cause the SES light. This coupled with knowledge of how it works would tell you where and how to look for the problem instead of blaming the sensor code it came up with like Dealers do! These types dop not allow for tuning.
Tuning, reflashing can get complicated and there are numberous boards from these makers to allow you to ask questions etc and offer help. But lets do a simple one. You take your timing maps and change each cell of the timing map and change it. For simplicities sakes lets say box one has 1 degree and box 2 and so fourth, you change the value in each box up one to add timing. Thats it!! Box one has 2 and box 2 now reads 3!! All kinds of things can be changed, added or deleted, but learning them is another tricka nd some of these guys offer base tunes and allow updated downloads from there sites that allready have the next best tune they tried and found to work. If you copy those and compare them to the factory setting and learns the whens and whys all this then makes a hellvalot more sense. The tuning part I cant tell you how it does what , when unless you had one in front of you and I had your info! BUT always back up the original program on disc incase you mess up. You can toy with small value areas, ask questions on these boards then tackle larger areas and when and if you screw up you have the last copy of what went well backed up to return to that!!
Not sure what the cable is called but its to go from a series port to ADL port and all these sites offer the cables!

I didn't know squat about LS1 edit when I got my TA,and was scared to death to even toy with it.But I talked to friends on my Fbody sight and LS1edit.com and slowly but surely I started changing some settings and then some more.Yeah I messed up a couple of times but I have countless saved files that did work to go back to.And of course the stock file to go back to but I doubt I will ever go to it except to sell the car and that isn't gonna be any time soon. And to be honest I still am not very clear on a lot of the tables and figures I have. But I am learning and that's just part of it.Thank god for all my pals on the Fbody boards and LS2.com.Or I would not know what I know now. There are tons of resources for different edit software available. So you won't go at it alone.

Ok this is the email I got tonight from Dave at carputing.I emailed them back to ask for updated info and he emailed me back quik.I guess he didn't want me thinking it was about here which I did.I guess that's why I got this email. Hi Roy,
We currently are focused on the LS2 PCM's,to finish them up.To stay on top of the industry we have to have our product available for the latest PCM equipped performance cars. The LS2 edit is in it's final stages and we are really excited about what we will be able to offer the LS2.Supporting both the older V6 trucks and older V6 cars is definitely on it's way, but so far they have not reached the top of the priority list. But we will be working more on our older pcm equipped cars and trucks once our most recent model years are covered.Sorry I don't have any specific dates for this at this time, but just be patient and let your S10 friends know we will have something for them soon. Thanks,
Dave @ carputing.com
