View Full Version : EGR Cleaning
I have a '96 S10 4.3 and i have noticed some of the symptoms of the egr needing to be clean like hard brake pedal, rough idle. i have never messed with an egr and need some instructions to cleaning it.

the valvoline 3-step fuel cleaner works great for this. Or sea foam deep creep. make sure to replace the gasket. I also recomend a toothbrush or small bottle brush to clean. Make sure to get the valve seat real good.

dental picks work real well for picking away at the built up carbon. O2 Sensor friendly throttlebody cleaner will help to loosen up the carbon a bit. Use a fresh gasket.
I see this post is 3 days old so you may have already done this. How did it go?
well i havent done it yet but i did check all the vaccum lines this past weekend and i had 2 bad ones so i replaced

So,your saying that a carbon covered EGR valve causes a kinda hardish brake pedal? What if you block it off like others have done

I've always had to push hard on the brake pedal since I got my truck. Hmmm........
