I'm thinking about lowering my truck down, probably 2-3 on my 96 s10. Does anyone know, or has anyone, just tryed taking the helper leaves out of the stock leaf springs? Any better than investing in some belltech leaves maybe? Just trying to keep the cost low I suppose, and I don't really wanna sit on blocks if I don't have to.

Not gonna lower it all that much by pullin the helper springs.. 1/2"-1" maybe.

The cheapest 2/3 drop would be 2" drop coils for the front and 3" lowering blocks in the rear. I would suggest saving up for 2" drop spindles for the front and 3" drop leaf springs for the rear. With drop leaf springs you would need new shocks. You will have a much better ride with drop spindles and leaf springs IMO.

if u like your truck and plan on keeping it for awhile id suggest saving money for spindle and leafs also. plus if you go this way and decide you wanna go 1" lower all you'll need is coils and blocks. with and 2/3 drop with coils and blocks the next step (without buying coils and blocks again) would be 4/6. unless you stack blocks or find some 1"drop control arms(which are big$$$) so youll have more options of how low you wanna go without buyin parts youve already bought. make since?

thats where i went wrong with my drop. i went 3/3 with coils and leafs. now i want 4/4. the back would be easy, i just need a 1"block.
but the front i would need to get 2" coils and 2"spindles. then lose money selling my 3" coils i already got. i can go 5/5 but thats lower than id want to go. I've found lower control arms that would bring me down a inch in the front but there like 5-600 bucks. oh, 3"coils will bring your lower control arms up so high it'll hit the frame when you hit bumps. they dont have to be big bump either.

mine had the helper springs removed...i dont like it at all. it gives the rear end to much play. whenever you take off hard you can feel the rear end twist the leaf springs until you let off the gas pedal. i would replace the helper springs but it was done by the previous owner. mine has 2" lowering blocks in the rear and 2:" belltech lowering springs in the front

I am running 2" front drop coils and 3" blocks giving me a 2/3" drop my friend loves the stance of my truck.I happy with it,abd I dint have to pay for mine!(came with truck at time of purchase)
Easiest and Cheapest way hands down is to get 2" spindles for the front. This way you can retain the factory shocks up front and just require an alignment afterwards
Or you could get some ZQ8 springs from the wreckers (1.5" drop)
For the rear, I went with ZQ8 leafs from the wreckers and 2" blocks. Cheap and easy. You will have to upgrade your shocks out back though.
These will probably be your cheapest options. Grab the sway bars (F+R)while your their too, makes for nice handling
