View Full Version : Why?
Why does it seem like my transmision shifts differently when I am in D then when I am in OD. It seems like when I am in D it holds gears longer and shifts harder. Like a Preformance Mode or something. It is a 700-R4
Because it's 3rd gear and it's holding the torque converter long, as well as it's a different gear ratio.
i mean the 1-2 shift is at a higher rpm, the 2-3 shift is higer and when i let off of the gas in either 1 or 2 or at least drive slowly it doesnt kick down to the highest gear like it does in OD
That's becasuse 1-3 don't use the torque converter like 4/OD does. 1-3 for the most part keeps it locked, while in OD it is constantly locking/unlocking as needed.
i see. I like it like it is in 3, is there any chance im gonna hurt the trans?
No, it won't hurt it, but it's a serious waste of gas... If you look at your manual, it will show that you should drive it in OD/4 for normal driving, it will upshift to 3rd up hills when you press down on the gas.
has anyone heard from jake?

I m Jake, the reason your transmission shifts differently in drive is that in manual mode the line pressure is boosted Makes the shifts more firm and quicker.
