View Full Version : Help, Please
Guys, im in trouble. During some repair on my truck I lost, yes I said lost, the hold down screw for my truck. I have looked at all of the local junkyards, no luck, you cannot buy 8mm threaded rod, and GM has stopped building the part. Im up **** creek and i dont have a paddle, hell, i hardly have a canoe. Right now I am using a sponge sandwiched between the hood and the aircleaner top to keep the grit out. If anyone can do anything to help me, if they have an old 2.8 with a TBI on it and would want to send it to me I will pay. Hell, im to the point that I would buy the TBi unit for the screw. Please help me if you can. The screw for the 4.3 is too small, so that rules that one out. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

have you checked lmctruck.com?
you can use a peise of allthead OR Yo can go ahead and upgrade to an aftermarket breather. It should have a hold down in the kit.
i don't know who told you they dont sell 8mm all thread cause you can get any size all tread rod you need. look though the phone book and fing a bolt and fastener store(it's industrail if that helps). the lowes down here sells alltread.

How long???? Look for Fastenal on the web, YOU WILL get oen from them of even a local Fastenal Dealer, if not give me the length and I'll see what I can do.
bvr, I told you, no one sells 8mm allthread. not the car stores, not the machine shops, no one. I will check fastenall, and Ididnt even think of LMC. the problem with an after market breaher is that it is a straight piece of rod, not bent like I need, and If i bend it, it would be too short. Thanks for the help so far, ill keep you guys posted as to the process

worst come to worst get a peice of threaded rod that you need in any length, cut it to use the threaded sides and weld another peice connecting them to whatever length, size, shape you need.

If it don't work out let me know. There is a few junk yards around here that I will check.
We have one right down the road and I use them for nut's and bolts, but I allways assumed that it was just a local buisness. It never occured to me that Fastenal was a national chain.

Fastenal used to be just a distributor of such fasteners and a few years back they decided with the advent of super hardwares to try a stab at a all fastner place. It went so well with the first few stores they are adding more and more each day. There not just for fasteners also, they do carry or get other other things also!! ANd dont forget, its all types of fasteners too!! ANything that puts 2 things together , they carry!!! We supply them with most all there set screws, dowel pins and some speciality stuff, so support ME!!
I buy some speacialty tools and I buy lots of taps from them. It's the the only plase around here that sell true bottom taps and I can get my choise of 4 are 3 cutter types.
(There is no such thing as a lifetime tap).
for 12 dollars for a ****iing piece of threaded rod, this son of a ***** better work

Only wont work if the thread wasnt a M8!!! And for $12 your getting 39 inches of it so you can do it again and again and again!!
Worse comes to worse run a 5/16-18 tap into the hole. The M8 is only .004 bigger in diameter and the thread is 20.32 threads and inch and the 18 tap would just skim cut it!!
