Just a way to post up any new deals found on headers.
I know some of you are looking into getting some soon. Anytime we can help each other find a deal its a good thing.

Some JBAs for 4wd : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260237277239&rd=1

Gibson's for a 2wd - I'm bidding on them but I'm not sure if I'm serious about it yet so let me know if you're in and I won't bid you up!

I'm gonna keep an eye on them if I would buy headers I want SS. theres like 4 days left right? I'm gonna think about it. Aren't the JBA's supposed to be better?

rentedmule
05-05-08, 11:10 PM
not sure which of those are supposed to be better. IIRC the only brand I heard not-so-good things about were the OBX's

nukem1st
05-06-08, 01:54 AM
Gibson rates right up there with JBA, but yeah JBA is probably the better of the Two,

JBA, Hooker,(don't know if they make them for the 4.3) Gibson, Edelbrock, Headman, Any of these I wouldn't be afraid to buy.

OBX your just throwing money away,

Mikz86TA
05-06-08, 02:11 AM
They are the exact same in build quality. The JBAs have a tube that loopps the steering shaft and the Gibsons stay on the engine side of it. But the JBA design may make plug changing easier. Its a toss up.
The Gibsons posted by Tyson are Stainless Steel. The 117 was chrome, 117S was stainless and the 117S-C was coated stainless.

Oh, and Gibson only makes the for 2wd, they are 1.1/2 primaries, have EGR fitting at the back but no AIR. The year fitment is limited because of that. But like on my 2003, I have either AIR or EGR and used a cap in the EGR fitting.

Yeah I wished they made the Hooker Headers for 94 and up 4.3 , I ran these for years back in the 70's, and they never gave me any problems, well of course unless I un-caped them, but that's a different story.I had a 56 Chevy with an LS6 man that's one car I wished I had never let go.
ahhhh the memories.

Hey those Gibsons are SS but no coating? I'm not interested then. Whatever I get will be coated. Or I'll send them out to be coated.

unless they go for super cheap.

But really I want LT's coated of course.

nukem1st
05-06-08, 12:13 PM
I noticed that, he said he paid 600.00 5 years ago for non coated headers, I thought that was a little high.Don't these headers normally come Y pipe too, or is that only with the real expensive ones? I don't see that putting on the factory Y pipe would really benefit the headers though.

firefighter
05-06-08, 12:49 PM
They are Stainless (explains the cost) and as far as I know only the Edelbrocks come with the Y-pipe. there is a group buy going on somewhere on a custom Y-pipe like the old SLP one.

Mikz86TA
05-06-08, 03:09 PM
PM-FL coatings is somewhere near you. They have a (727) area code. Something like $199 for shortys to be coated and there are a few colors to choose from. Maybe youll get a 'walk-in' deal.Hey those Gibsons are SS but no coating? I'm not interested then. Whatever I get will be coated. Or I'll send them out to be coated.

Mikz86TA
05-06-08, 03:20 PM
Yeah, that price is BS unless he got raped. They are just around $400 for stainless and $475-ish for coated ones. That was what I priced them at a year ago. Sounds like he elaborated a bit.
No Y-pipe. The OBX/JBA/Gibsons are all meant to reuse the stock y-pipe. Edelbroks come with a y-pipe since they are a longer length.
CRMB on the S10Forum is indeed making a aftermarket y-pipe which will fit up to the stock manifold and thus the shorty headers. But since GM changed various things from year to year and model to model, they only have a few fitments right now.
SLP who used to make the y-pipes had only 2 fitments the last year they produced them. #31138 was for 1997 2wd and 31138A was for 1998 2wd. The difference in those was the O2 location. 1997 had 1 O2 where the y-merge was and the 1998 had the 2 O2s up farther in each bank. Also after the 1998 year, I think was when GM made the Y-pipe and Cat as one combined unit and the flange was after the cat. 1997 and 1998 show the cat having a front flange and thus being able to be removed without cutting from the y-pipe.

IC. They work with Maryland Speed on coating the recently developed Kooks LT headers for GTOs. My buddy got some and the coating was nice. The red was a nice touch too under te hood of his black Goat.

Dammit, why don't these reknowned companies make headers for the 2.2/2200 dimes? I'm tired of settling for Pacesetter junk! And while they're at it, why can't they make a Tri-Y (4-2-1) version for it?

Mikz86TA

The flanges will fit any 4.3L V6. But I can tell you the angle of the collector and ita positioning isnt going to fit in a s-series.

Nickelin'Dimer
08-26-08, 09:13 PM
Yeah, those are designed to fit inside of the frame-rails on an old street-rod. We need ones with the collector mounted lower & at a right-angle (Parallel to the frame).

Price of headers went out of my price range.....I can scoop those headers up brand new for $350 at summit. I have a feeling they will end somewhere around the $300 mark plus the shipping cost

Right now it seems to me that the edels or the best bet unless you already have your "Y" done. Average price of SS shorty headers, $300-450. Might find some used for $200. Average cost for custom "Y" $150-250. Price for brand new edels that are a bolt on for my 98,
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL%2D67153&N=700+400065+4294923429+4294918680+4294907048+4294 908171+4294840129+4294924677+115&autoview=sku
That is unless there's something different between the 98 sonoma and 98 jimmy that IDK about.

I've pretty much got my mind made up. When I get the money I'm getting a set of edels for my 98 Jimmy.
