I believe i t is possible- i have seen people put a 3/4 x 18 in wood bit through there head. maybe the nail gun fell and hit him on th ehead and that hurt so bad that he did not realize that the gun had driven a nail in to his skull. Strange things like this happen it seem like all the time- lke the time i was a snmall child i was walking arond in my baby hushpuppy shoes and i steped on a long spike and did not know it on till i tried to pick my foot up.

I don't care if that guy got hit by a truck before the nail got lodged in his head, he had to feel that. I mean the force that the nail gets driven in at, you would think it would make you feel like you got hit with an upper cut to the chin or something. And the fact that he didn't feel IT or the hole from IT with his tongue, is crazy. That guy must be smoking some serious sh**.
VAAKE does have a point, but this is a big nail that came from a nail gun.

There is a valid reason as to why he may not have noticed. The brain has pain receptors all over, and it seems (or the story makes it seem) that the nail hit one of those receptors. The odd thing is that is the receptor itself is damaged, no pain is felt -- therefore it is hard to realize if there is a problem.

But, on the flip side. . . SIX DAYS! Doesn't this guy brush his teeth? Look in the mirror? You would think that SOMEHOW he might have noticed a NAIL STUCK IN HIS HEAD. Sheesh! I get a small piece of parsley lodged in one of my teeth and it bugs the hell out of me. But no, this guy gets a NAIL stuck in his head and doesn't notice it?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the gene pool needs more chlorine! When you have people walking around with nails lodged in their heads for SIX DAYS and not noticing it, I'd say the species is in rapid decline.

Actualy I could see how it would happen and you wouldn't think you got hit. The guns drive with tons of force, but that's to go through wood, not flesh and bone (which are a tad softer). What I could see happening is that he slips, falls drops the gun, as he catches himself from his slip he get's a jolt from not only the fall and his hands bracing himself, but a quick sting to the face as the nail just slides right in. He probably jerks his face to the side from the nail, and see's the other nail embedded in the wood behind him and thinks he just got lucky and hit by a richoche. Later on it starts hurting more and he thinks maybe that richoche got him a little harder than he thought but he tries toughing it out a little longer (doesn't want to scare the wife/seem like a wimp/admit he made a mistake, insert standard guy reason, you know them all, I know I do), and eventualy decides that the pain is getting annoying. Then discovers the second nail when the dentist finishis laughing his *** off in the backroom.

Things you would think would hurt a lot tend not to when you do them. As a young teenager I enjoyed Mountain Biking. Well me and a friend were riding a fireroad down the side of a mountain at dusk (ok mostly night by then) when we saw a gate closed over the road. Looked like one of those basic single bars at about the right hight to hit a car at the bottom of the windshield with a couple of cloth straps hanging down from it, so we both figured we wouldn't slow down and just duck under it as we passed by. Well, my friend went woooosh right under and past, and I followed right behind, except when I was about 1/3 the way under I came to a very sudden stop. Had no clue why, even kept pedaling spinning my tires out to go by, but something was stopping me, like a tracktor beam or something. After struggling for about a minute I noticed that something felt tight around the side of my neck. I finaly figured that maybe my shirt had somehow caught on something and that had stopped me. Well I reach with my arm to my neck, and instead of finding my shirt caught on something, I find this piece of stiff sheet metal. Realy weird part was that the metal ran from the pole above me right into my shoulder/neck pretty seamlessly (by the way, still no pain and no discomfort). So I backup some on the bike and hear this kinda sick sounding sucking them pop sound as the metal band pulls out of my neck. Turns out those cloth straps hanging from the pole were actualy metal. Anyways, still wasn't bothering me so I road with my friend the rest of the way back to camp. Got there and put some lights on it, and then we noticed the pretty dark red blood and the pretty long deep gash in my neck.

It never did realy hurt, just acked some later, and stung a bit as I got it cleaned up. Still got a scar on my neck from it.

Anyways, just saying I can understand how you might miss something like that at first.

Oh some of these are good!! HAHAHA!!

Anyhow I can see DCAFs explanation to some degree with things happening so fast the thud and impact force just didnt register. But look at the xray closely and the dam thing was against the bone plate in the roof of his mouth. Take your tongue and push up against this area, aint thick and I bet youve done it hundreds of times and would notice something like this that was never there now is!!!!!!!

You ever been shot with an air nailer? I shot my hand with one once. Some jackars decided it would make the gun faster if they took the saftey off.
well anyway The cold air numbs the skin. Had I not nailed my hand to a board I probally wouldn't have know for it happened right away. I don't know how he got the gun to backfire unless he was trying to nail concrete. Most nailguns are pretty well put tougether(even the cheap ones) it would have had to have been an old nailguns with out the guards: Although I could see this happening if it was a finishing nailer or air stapler. those nails are like pins and have a tendoncey to go completly through matiral if you have too much pressor on the line.
