if you are using the onboard video.....64Mb is not enuff to run some of the newer games out there,
After cruzing the max payne website it would seem I am right..
Q: Does Max Payne require a 3D accelerator?
A: MAX-FX engine is built from the ground up to take full advantage of 3D acceleration. There is no software renderer in the game.
Q: What about OpenGL?
A: We're supporting DirectX only, because of its much broader support, which will greatly lessen compatibility issues for players. And DirectX's current state allows for all the speed and functionality of OpenGL.
Q: What are the system requirements?
A: Minimum (minimum graphical detail):450 MHz Intel/AMD Processor (or compatible)96 MB RAM 16 MB Direct3D Compatible Graphics Card
Recommended (Medium graphical detail):700 MHz Intel/AMD Processor (or compatible) 128 MB RAM 32 MB Direct3D Compatible Graphics Card Hope this helps..

well my pc is a p4 3 gig 800 khz running 1024 mb ram and I have a 3d accelerator and is running 32 mb and like I said a few months back I ran the game and it played fine my american hot rod street drag even freezes now? havent even tried my NFSmw with the cd! and when I ran this game before I was only running 512 mb rams? so I am lost and like I said all my drivers are up to date!
sounds to me a registy sweep and maybe a virus scan and check your start up files, try Spybot S&D...it works great

What kind of noise are we talking about? Is it a clicking type noise?
If it is, it's your hard drive... I had an 80g hard drive from Western Digital a while back and played some CSS and CoD:4 on it and after a few weeks of buying the hard drive while playing CSS my game locked up and my computer started making awful clicking noises and the computer shuts off and restarts itself... I even put my hands over my head because I thought something was about to blow up.
At first I just put up with it but after awhile the computer would reset and when it tried to reboot it couldn't find the hard drive at all.
Best thing I can say is if you're running XP, pop the XP CD in and go to the repair option. Run a checkdisk I think the command in the console is chkdsk. If the check comes back with a corrupt hard drive it should recommend you to fix the problem. I did this and it ran good... for a week. I did it again and it worked for 3 days and it got worst from there so I backed up what I could off the hard drive and threw it away in the trash and bought a 320gb from tigerdirect for like 45 bucks and haven't had problems with it.

Video Card Issue most likely, Tryt uninstalling and reinstalling Direct X. Re-install video drivers. Upgrade your video if you can, maybe go with at least a geforce 7600, Im running a 7900GTX, pretty decent card, probably check newegg, Got mine for $150
