ok guys i'm trying to figure out which door speakers i am goin to put in there and am wondering what is the maximum depth that i can fit in there, i have had really good luck with crutchfield and they have only speakers with less than 2" mounting depth listed...but i have a great deal lined up on some infinities but they top out at like 2-1/8 or so give or take....i've been looking at what everyone has and tried to figure out depths that way...but maybe someone knows something that i don't know? thanks a bunch!!

You will have plenty of room in there I would say atleast 3in, trust me. Dash speakers, thats a problem.

Door speakers are limited to 3.125" -- otherwise you run into problems with the window hitting the magnet.
Dash speakers are limited to 2" at the part closest to the A-pillars and close to 3" toward the center of the dash. The driver side is more restrictive than the passenger side. Depending on which set of speakers you are looking at, you should be OK. If the Infinity 4x6s that you're looking at are the plate-type (separate mid and tweeter), then as long as you mount it so the tweeters are toward the A-pillar, then you should be good to go. Since most 4x6s are coaxials, however, the point is usually moot -- since the magnet is dead-center of the speaker, at which point, I've seen that you can go with up to a 2.25" mounting depth (depending on the diameter of the magnet).
I've got an older set of Kicker 4x6s, which are on the beefier end (as far as 4x6s go), and they fit in without the brackets or spacers. It isn't so much the bottom of the speaker that you need to watch -- it's the TOP. If the tweeter sticks out from the basket, you run into a problem with getting the grille back on the right way (or of it bowing upwards -- too much of a bow and the grille will crack).
I hope this helps!
crutchfield is good but pretty expensive. I use crutchfield to find out what i need then i order from here http://www.etronics.com/mysearchcat.asp?catid=296&SC=1&store= there cheaper and have pretty good shipping.

Nice, yea i use crutchfield for what will fit...but i go elsewhere, alot of times my friend at a stereo shop gets a good deal and he'll let me know if want to pick something up, but thanks a lot!!
As far as my dash speakers go, i have factory installed tweeters....and mids in the door, but without the crossovers. It sounds decent...but i know that factory sounds crappy when you put it up against a good aftermarket set. But i am looking at putting the Infinity Tweeters in the dash.....the actual plan is going down like this, I am going to get the 6.5's for now and then later this spring buy a component set of Infinities and replace the doors with the mids, and the dash with the tweeters....and move the set that i am getting now to the rear doors.....although i am still fuzzy on if i actually will do the component set.....
components are nice but they are expensive.

but the question is are they that much better to justify it?

because the way i see it is that if they sound that much better than so be it...otherwise the coaxial 6.5's and 3.5 tweeters are just fine....i have enough bass....i just want better sound
in my opinion I would just get regular 2 or 3 way speakers. I have a set of 2 way infinity speakers and they sound great. put a set of 2 ways in the front doors and a set of 2 ways in the dash and you should be fine. but remember thats just my opinion and if you got the money and want to spend it try the components go for it.

do you have the reference series? because those are the ones that i am looking at picking up? i mean i have decent sound now....but i just want to step up to a little bit better, i am not planning on doing any sound competitions or anything.......so i think the 2-3 ways would be fine.....
