I have an 01 S-10 ZR2, and I love it. I,ve made lots of upgrades from lift too intake and exhaust. I have a noise coming from my front end. At first I thought it was a driveshaft or cv joint but after inspecting both of those it seems to be more than that. I have an "humming/vibrating" noise cumming from my front end. It goes away when I activate 4*4. And when I return back too 2 wheel drive sometimes the noise returns and sometimes it doesn't. Could it be an actuator or a axle housing bearing? Any advise or suggestions? :(
My 2000 did that. it was the differential actuator "hanging up" They do make a kit to bypass that vacuume thing and activate it manually.

Yeah,
I went with the Posi-loc actuator, not because I had your issue, but because the vacuum actuators always seem to fail at the least opportune moments (like my last one quitting me in the middle of my 37 mile drive home from work, during a snow-storm)!
The Posi-loc works, tho sometimes I have to let it roll a bit before it engages. But YOU are in control of IT, unlike the vacuum actuator... Plus, when I bought mine, I searched the web & got it for $105 shipped, where the GM dealership wanted like $180 for another actuator!:)
I'd recommend it!

i had the same noise but mine turned out to be the wheel bearing hub assembly. it would make noise in 2w but i could hit the 4w button on off and it would go away.
