here in sc...like all places in the us...you have to be 21 to buy a handgun. well recently they changed the law. now you can be 18 and buy one. i forsee either a glock model 22...which is 40 cal, or model 32...which is a 45, in my near future.

thats a big step forward. they are trying to ban all guns here including the purchase of accessories. We need them to enforce the laws on the books and not make new ones. Im quite sure the NRA had alot to do with it. Glocks are dated, you can get alot more "bang" for your buck with other models.

I like the law at 21yrs old. Gives people a little time to mature and mellow out a little. Everyone over 18 has had there tempers and god forbid we need kids with guns. Im 20 but I can wait another year to own a pistol. Only reason Im going to buy one is strictly for the range and personal protection. If someone has a problem they can deal with fists not guns. Just my insite. Guns are good but putting a concealable weapon in a younger persons hands is asking for trouble how the youth are turning out nowadays.

^^^ haha hope you got some money for that HK m23. I cant find them under 1000$ here and they're bulky anyways. After looking at the full sized glocks they're kinda bulky in the handle too. I like the colt/clone 1911's with the slim handles etc...but thats my opion. Glocks are nice but the new hot toy is the Xd's.

$$$$ influence prolly.
I prefer the 21 year age limit but they need to drop the rifle/shotgun limit to 16 w/ parent 21 without.
The gun laws are not federal law, age limit anyways, thats up the the state and sounds like SC is going to be the first state to start adopting new laws and modifying and enforcing the ones they already have. Now if only the demo****ic err cratic ways of illinois could change for the better.

Federal law states that a buyer must be 21 to purchase a gun from an ffl dealer. No state law can preempt that.An 18yo can purchase a firearm from a private individual according to federal law.I'm not aware of any states that have raised the minimum age but I'm only really up on Fla laws.An adult can gift a firearm to a minor.

matched pair huh? then how come they're two different calibers :P
I read a while ago there is a loophole where which you can own a handgun if you are over 18, But you just cant buy one. Im guessing it has to be given to you, inheritance/from an estate. Still can't carry it etc, you can only own it.
not sure how much truth their is to it.
Not sure if it just applies just to my state (pa).

Your dealer is wrong. From the ATF website:
(F6) Does a customer have to be a certain age to buy firearms or ammunition from a licensee?
Yes. Under the GCA, long guns and long gun ammunition may be sold only to persons 18 years of age or older. Sales of handguns and ammunition for handguns are limited to persons 21 years of age and older. Although some State and local ordinances have lower age requirements, dealers are bound by the minimum age requirements established by the GCA. If State law or local ordinances establish a higher minimum age, the dealer must observe the higher age requirement.

Caliber is the only difference between the two. Laying side by side on the table, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

Yea, but what's to stop old Uncle Sam from telling us that we need to mellow out more?... then raise the age to 25... or 30... or 75? Or just ban them altogether? I am more in tune with the thought that everyone should own a gun once they reach 18. Even if some would never use it... just keep it locked away in a cabinet; It would give criminals more reason to think twice before comitting crimes, and give the government more reason to do their jobs and stop making laws that curtail our liberties. The second amendment wasn't written to allow us to hunt for our food. It was written to protect us from fascist government.
