what is the factory tint on the rear windows of second gens...because i am getting the front doors done but i kinda want to go with a similar shade.... the tint shops over the phone are saying 20% ..... which is fine and all but i don't want to match the front with a darker tint than the rear...does that make sense? thanks guys!!!
good quetion.
It's been awile sence I've tinted windows, but if I rember right DOT law allows you 35% on the front, with an eyelash on the windsheild. You can tint the read 5% limo if you want and they can't say anything unless your state law has an amedment say you can only go X %.
35% matches up pretty good. With all the tints out now ,you can 20% on the front and get it to match, but I don't thinck it's dot leagle.

When I got mine done they couldn't match the front exactly. The shade was gonna be different. I told them I didn't want it to match. I want dark, like limo in the back so put some 20% over that factory and put limo 5% in the front 2 windows with a 5% glare strip. Got pulled over for speeding one day and I know better so I roll my windows down when getting stopped. I got a ticket for speeding and one for having glare strip too low. Its like 3" below the as1 line. State Troopers are DH's in this state. I've seen people with almost half their windshield tinted limo as their glare strip and the rest of it in like a mirror tint. Can't see in thier windshield at all. WTF!!!!!!!!

When the sun shines directly in the windshield you can see in a little. At night forget it. I rely on headlights behind me to see at night. Sometimes I have to roll down the window to see out of the side mirror when backing out of driveways at night. You know the only reason you can't see in a limo in the day time is because the light doesn't shine directly in. If you were to roll down a window or two and let some light in you would be able to see in the other windows. If I tint my windshield and keep the light from coming in, you wouldn't be able to see in at all during the day. In the summer it cools off faster when you get in it, and stays cool with out having to have the a/c blasting all the time.

just tell them to match it...i had my fronts and windshield match the rears and it looks good....at night only thing visible inside the truck is the gauges and stereo....i am thinking about getting the rear hatch darker but not sure yet...

I have 5% all the way around and 6 inches down on the front of my S10.It is VERY dark.I can't see crap out the windows at night.I to rely on headlights to see if something is coming and if im backing up I have to open my sliding back window lol.I can't stand not having my windows tinted. The first thing I do when I get a new ride and I mean before any performance mods get done is tint the windows.I have been given tickets before and I pay them but the local cops around here don't care. It's always been the state boys who bust me.I like not worrying if someone rides my a** with the brights on because they are just a couple of dots in my rearview with 5% tint.I didn't tint my TA because the cops are always looking for a reason to bust me for speeding or or something else.So I don't wanna draw anymore attention to me or give them a reason to pull me over in it.I think I remember someone saying the factory tint is the glass dipped in a tint and it's 35%.Im not sure but seems like I heard that. You could add 15 or 20% and be pretty close to a 5% I would guess.

yes I agree with you maximus on the fact that it would be drawing a lot of attention to a car that seems to be a cop magnet! but it is nice that even if someone has their brights on you only see dots...which if your lights are sensitive at night they are a blessing, but as for my bravada I am just going to have them match them and put the eye-brow on the windshield.
