I bought the hypertech programmer the other day and plugged it into the port. The programmer did not turn on. I tried a friends DTC today to see if there was something wrong with the port, and low and behold the port is not working. How do I make the plug work under the dash?

did you buy the programer used?

it has a vin reconition program in it. If it was hooked up to anoughter car it'll have to be sent off for reprogrming.
There is a to check voltage on the port, but I need a year and i'll have to look it up. Check your fuses, wires, and hopefully one of the mechanics that have dealt with a dead port will post up.

I'm going to make this tread sticky for awhile because it's such a good quetion and I'm betting we get a welt of info out of it.

If you bought it used when you turn it on it will tell you that it already has another vin in it. It will still turn on. Check to see if the wires haven't come out of the back of the plug under the dash. It gets its power from that plug. Have you ever had any problems with the truck to where you had to have it checked by the dealer in where they had to use a diagnostic computer. Maybe they broke it. They are good at fudging things up and not telling you.

It was a brand new programmer. The programmer has no display that shows up. There is no power being supplied to the port. I checked the fuses and did not find any bad ones.

All i really needed was the W in the vin, but i forgot you were new.

do what jake said(i belive that fuse is under the hood).

One of the pins should send a 5v signal to a multimeter, but i'll have look this one up and I'm finding little to nothing on bad adl port and nobody I talk to has ever run into this problem before.
but there is no reason why your adl shouldn't be working, call hypertech their may be something wrong with the unit itself.

If worse comes to worse you may need to take the truck in to shop and have them look at it. please post your finding

I talked with a mechanic friend of mine and it was a fuse. It was listed as cig lighter/ dash or something like that. My cig lighter was still working so I did not even look at that fuse. After replacing the fuse, I went ahead and reprogrammed the truck. Was a piece of cake. Just answered the ? and 10-15 later. Truck was reprogrammed. Thanks for all the replies.
