I'm looking for any info you have. I have a 1990 TBI with 5 speed. Looking to swap on the Vortec (2001) heads, 2114 with TBI adapter and a cam (undecided).
What software?
What programmer?
PCM swap?
Wide band O2 or no?
3 bar MAP?
Anything?I've looked around thirdgen.org but those guys can be a PITA with helping out a newb.
I have searched on the swap and some say tune and some say no. IMO if you're adding that much more airflow it needs a tune or it's a waste of time. Any good links to a build that's similar? At this point the SyTy builds are not much help since this is non boosted and TBI.

the 2114 conversion is only good with a turbo from what i've herd...
otherwise its a PITA to use...

I wouldn't have it drilled for injectors, just use an adapter to run the TBI. IMO the TBI is capable of supporting a N/A 4.3 no problem.

now thats not half bad...atleast you don't have to carry a labtop to change your computer..
but i've never done the 2114 conversion... im still waiting to see some hard evidence that this system is worth the money before i jump in...

I wasn't sure about the 3 bar or not.
Searching around and seen Tuner Cat, Moates...blah.blah.
I was hoping someone here had done this so I could use the same software.
I did find a free one..

there's a list of different stand-alone efi setups on campbell automotive's website

From what I understand if you go to a 3 bar MAP sensor you'll lose tuning resolution. It's really only good for boosted setups.

From what I have read some of the GM PCMs are better then the standalone kits available and with cost a factor it seems to be the best bet. I have the time to tune the truck once it's here but most of the money is designated for other areas of the truck. There are swaps to dual processors factory PCMs like this one. (http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/diy-prom/270266-tbi-guys-its-time.html) If I read it correctly it should allow me more control then even the higher end standalone setups.

Oh no 3 bar MAP. Thanks for pointing out it's only for boost.

The more I search the more I get confused by this crap. Swapping PCMs, binary files, adapting 24 and 26 pin PROMs for 28 or 30, ten million types of software....ahhh.
I'm going to keep reading as much as I can and try to figure out one thing at a time. I'll I know at this point is I should use Tuner cat or Ostrich (Moates) for the software, more people seem to use one of the two.
i've been tuning mine for some time. use tuner cat for tuning, and get moates burn 1 flash n burn chip burner, and get moates s1 aries socket for easy quick change of you chip, and upgrade to the 27sf512 chip(and order 2 chips so you can program one without having to keep pulling the one out to do it) from moates it is erasable with the programmer, REAL nice. using the chip upgrade saves the hassle of having to buy a chip eraser too. i bought a chip burner off ebay, that does work, and was a few bucks cheaper, but had to buy an eraser to. moates has the best price for the items i listed than any one else. oh ya, the chip socket adapter will fit right into the ecm socket without having to hard wire it in. with this set up you will be set up for easy programming. now all you have to do is figure out where the power is in you truck.
OH YA, you have to get winaldl to get the data from your truck. its free and is a great tool. it's easy and gives you all the data you need to start tuning.
as for the vortecs and manifold, don't know. but i want to get a 2111 for mine to get better mid to top end.
good luck!

What about a standalone setup? Like Holley?
I just did a quick search, and I thought there was a smaller setup.

can this be used with the edelbrock 4 barrel intake ??
if so is it a simple plug and play setup ??
arrrrg...no mean to hijack:D
