I got the accessories on my AR15. Hogue pistol and vertical grip, DPMS 6 position stock. sight rail. I've got a red dot sight also, but for now I really like the iron sights.

I had a remote cap, but it crapped out real quick. Should have went with the Surefire instead of a cheap imitation.

still looks alot like the M4 I have issued to me... btw if sighted in right the red dot will give you faster reaction time to acquiring a target and hitting it. Im not sure but does that iron sight rail or "carrying handle" come off? the red dot I would say is great... mainly for indoor or close quarters shooting... getting something with a cross hairs scope might be a better Idea... of course thats up to you.

The carrying handle does not detach and the iron sights are part of the handle. The sight rail does come off but it's also see thru so you can use the iron sights as well as a scope. I'm thinking maybe use the iron sights for close range and maybe a 3X or 6X scope for longer range.
To be honest, if you want to mount an optic, the best way to do it is with a flat top. Those carry handle mounts on the A1 and A2 uppers don't work very well. (They work loose after a couple rounds, dont fit snug, or are too high for a good cheekweld.)
Best route would be to swap the upper to a flat top, then add in a fixed BUIS like a chopped detachable carry handle or an LMT style one, and mount an optic so it cowitnesses.
I've got the tools to do it, so if you want, buy and send the parts plus the upper receiver to me, and I'll do the swap for free. Hell, I'll drop it onto one of my lowers and test fire for function before I send it back.
And before ya ask, I have build a bunch of AR's before. Including this one:

So I do kinda know my way around the platform. :P

carry handles w/ scopes suck. My buddies bushy ar15 carbine has a handle and had a scope on it. The heigth from the barrel to the scope threw shots off badly just stepping back a few yards. He'd hold dime sized groups at 50yards step back to 60 and it'd shoot off but consistantly hold groups. I dunno much about ar15's though thats just what i saw and what he explained to me.

Okay....
Thats the one thing I do like about the M4's... you can have the carrying handle on if you want... if you want a scope... just tighten it on in place of the carrying handle...
On the barrel, on the top, I have a nifty infrared laser... once its sighted in... just put the laser on the target, guess the range adjust, and fire... all with the Night vision of course... I'll probably never have to use it...

Yeah, I agree. I didn't realize that at the time I bought it. When funds become available I'm going to get a flattop upper. Or I may wait and get something in .308 or .338 federal for long range shooting. I think I'll stick with the iron sights for now.

Why guess the range when you can use a rangefinder or a scope/rangefinder combo?
Unless your weapon is a gov issue and you are on uncle sams payroll.
Can you modify your weapon in the service? I was in during the kosovo **** and all we had were m16a2's at the time, only a certain few had scopes on their weapons when standing watch.
