I bought a new front seal for my compressor. My prob is I'm not sure how to get the clutch/pulley off. There are some threads sticking out of the center of the pulley and I assumed there was a nut screwed on there. Instead there is something else that looks kinda like a washer with a small square off to one side. Does anyone know how to get this off? I'll get some pics.

Maybe you can rent one?
why not buy a new compressor? They have warranties. Are you equipped to pull your ac system down to 30" mercury for 30 minutes or more once you have the compressor back on. Have you bought a new accumulator since the one you have now will be trash by the time you get done reading this post? Or were you going to get the 2.99 cans from autozone and recharge it yourself? Good luck with that. A/C work is best left to professionals

A new compressor is $216. I bought a new accumulator when I bought the new seal. I know someone(my brother) who has the tools to pull a vacuum to 30"hg.:D I figured out how to pull it now, I just haven't found the right tool yet. Autozone had one but, it wasn't the right size. Btw the seal was only $14.99. I really can't afford to buy a new one(ac compressor) right now.

Thanks Eric. I just seen this post. I was able to figure out that I needed a tool like that after I shined some light in there. I got the one from autozone but, it didn't work. I'm going to try Napa tomorrow.

AC compressors are $133 at oreillys. You can build a vacuum pump from an old fridge, lol. As far as replacing the seal (cause mine is bad) I'm fixing to just replace the compressor tomorrow and carry it to my uncle to fill it. Works out well with him being an a/c guy at a dodge dealership. I just gotta figure out a way to get in there without being seen around a bunch of dodges.

damn, be almost worth it for you to have me get you one and have it shipped. That price was off their website and for mine (87) so I guess it could be more for yours, but damn.
don't forget the orriface tube. you have to replace the orriface tube, accumulator and the compressor all at the same time or your **** will just break again. i rebuilt my a/c system like 3 times before i got it all working again. i know it pretty much inside and out now. (cost a fortune). the orriface tube is like $3.99 and it goes in the lower tube of the evap core.(the one in the firewall). pretty easy to replace, just get some long needle nose pliers and pull.

I needed to pull the compressor on the accessory bracket of the '92. But to get the compressor off you needed to pull the clutch/pulley to get the bolt out that holds the compressor to the bracket... stupid design.. anyways.. I wasn't going to keep the compressor on the V8 so I undid the nut holding the clutch/pulley & used a 3 leg gear puller & hit it w/ the air gun.. popped that clutch/pulley right off. Of course it can never be used again because the clutch/pulley was bent & the shaft on the compressor was all funked up, too. But that's my story & I'm stickin to it.
Eric, that's why I sent you the whole bracket off the 4.3. It was a lot easier take off. :D

If I installed a new replace the orifice tube, accumulator and compressor on my 98 Jimmy. Could I wait for awhile before I get it vacuumed and charged with out anything bad happening? Or will I have to get it done ASAP?
it needs to be oiled, properly, and i still think it might hurt it, i ran mine to the shop to have it vacced and the compressor is noisy now. and that was with it being oiled properly.
