View Full Version : SLP 1.6:1 roller tipped rockers
Anyone have/ had these ---> Link (http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=50833&BIG=50833-1)
Do they require the stud conversion like full rollers do? (thats
what I was trying to avoid)
Looking to see if anyone has used these on a first gen valvetrain..
cause they're listed as beng for 98-98.. but they dont look too
unique to be that specific for that year? just looks like they're
stamped stockers, but 1.6 ratio and roller tipped...
Would anyone be able to help me firgure out/find out if these
would fit the first gen CPI engine
Would they clear the composit valve covers(not that it matters
I have steels still sitting sround)
help somone

the cpi engines already have screw in rocker studs from the factory
thats not what I ment by stud conversion. I was talking
about metric - standard stud conversion.
I'm not a big fan of stamped steel rockers, but you have to go with stmped steel go with either crane or comp. It's going to cost about 150 for a set 1.6 rockers. I know that's a little more than the slp rockers, but they have much better rockers SLP(same rockers jegs sells as their own and I wouldn't pay 10bux for anoughther set of those) .
what does your head have bolted studs or pressed studs.
bolted is easy crane, arp,mr gasket, comp, jegs, summit,....ect just about anyone who has their own line of rockers will have the studs.
pressed your going have to go to a machine shop and have your haed heads converted to bolted, because pressed studs won't hold up.
****, I havnt had the valve covers off since last june
but Im almost positive thy're bolted.. its the HO 4.3
wouldnt it stupid no to have them
Anyway I wasnt really looking into getting a real expensive
set... well cause this year or next year the 4.3 is coming
out and a 350 is going in. Until then I gotta have some fun
I was just lookin to see if they would just bolt in.. IF i have bolted
studs ... not requiring the stud conversion like Ive seen/heard for
the full roller rockers
whats the difference if the stud size is metric & the rocker is
standard measurments?? anyone know specifically about 1st gens?
it a 10mm stud in the original head. and in most cases you'll need to go to a 3/8 stud.i thinck that right. It's been a while sence I've done this to stock heads. I usally just have the machinist figure every thing when he's building new heads cause I don't like messing with stock GM parts.I belive comp sells a set of 10mm (stud type) roller tips for around 120 and i belive they come with the guides. you may want to check out the comp site.
I learned a long time ago you get what you pay for.You have to pay if you wanta' play. It's no fun sitting in the staging area because you cut a corner on parts.
hey, as I was considering the 1.6's later on down the line, what do I need to do for them?

Your going to need to have the valve guides remachined anyways, so I'd go ahead and pay the extra for Comp Cams 3/8" 1.6 ratio self aligning rockers adn convertion kit and have a head guy take care of all the macthing of parts, as well as a port job.
