Yep that lil' fella just flashes his heart out. HAHAHA... I think my truck might be sick. Just curious before I go take it to get scanned what are a few things that can cause it to flash? It is always on because of a code 0440 (?? I think that was the code??).

But now it flashes. It doesn't flash all the time just when it comes under a load. (i.e. going up hill and taking off from a stop light)

It just started this past weekend. I was on the interstate stuck on a hill covered in snow/ice. I was determined to get to my destination even if it meant holding it at 100+ mph (which i did). It took me a bit of working but I get on up the highway and my truck starts to cut out some what. When I finally stopped it will idle fine then will idle really rough for a bit then go back to being fine.

When it starts to pull up a hill then the SES light will flash and the exhaust note changes dramatically along with the noise from the engine bay.

So tell me guys.... HOW BAD IS IT???

Dude get that truck to a dealership or to a authorized OBD 2 repair facility NOW, a flashing SES light means that there is immenent damage is about to happen the the engine/emissions system that can result in it not being able to be driven again.

it means that there is a major problem with the fuel and/or spark system. very bad. get it towed to a dealership.

HAHAHA.... I have been driving it everday to work every since. Maybe it'll blow. I'm taking it to get it scanned when I get off work today.

Solid SES = code and small problem.

Flashing SES = code and HUGE problem. Get it to a shop QUICK!

Usually means its dumping raw fuel it cannot burn!! But doesnt always have to, but odds are thats it. Whether is be a 02's gone bad, a leaking regulator or injectors, it says FIX ME NOW!!

A light that flashes requires more prompt attention, indicating a more severe condition that must be checked out immediately to prevent damage to the catalytic converter. When you experience a flashing light, minimize driving at high speeds or under heavy loads. When scheduling service, make sure the shop that diagnoses your car has technicians who are properly trained and certified for OBDII diagnosis and repair.

My buddy has a jeep and his started flashing about the same way as mine and it turned out to be an o2 sensor. I didn't have time to get it checked yesterday because I'm in the process of moving. I'm going at lunch today to get it scanned though.

3 quick checks, gas cap loose, EVAP solenoid vacuum lines off or damaged, the one that has the green cap and check the plastic lines at tank to the fuel tank pressure sensor make sure they are not off or damaged. Also check to make sure both items mentioned are plug in electrically.

On my OBD I, If I leave the 2 pins jumped to read the codes and I start my truck, my check engine light will flash at me like crazy. I know it means something else aside from yalls OBDII, so what does it mean?

i do believe that when the pins are jumperd the only reason its flashing is because thats how you read the code its sending. certain number of flashes = different code

jjwalker
01-30-05, 04:53 PM
yes, I know that is with the ignition switch on without the truck running. I am talking about when the truck has actually been started and is running. It just flashes at you about twice per second continuosly.

it could think there is an electrical problem

I've heard from a few people at the track that these cpi engines had problems with the plastic lines that run to the poppet valves, were rotting and causing fuel to run every where. Causes motor not to run right. I don't think it was a year as new as yours. I don't know which years or any details about the problem. Jedi may know. It crossed my mine because you have nitrous and may cause it to happen faster if you run alot. I don't know, my 2 cents.

Misfire on cylinder 5. I'm guessing it's the spark plug.

At that point you should juse replace them all, change out cap and rotor too as that can cause degredation to the cap/rotor

our trucks still have a cap and rotor. shouldnt cost too much $$$ to get new ones unles you go to a stealership

T Man
02-11-05, 03:28 PM
should cost you like 30 or 40 for a good cap and rotor kit. good tune up anyway

OBI WAN
02-11-05, 03:52 PM
Cap runs $35 and rotor another $15 for the newer styles.

I WILL SAY NAPA ECHLIN/ A/C DELCO ONLY!!!!!!! And be careful of the rear screw getting it straight on, many have broken or cracked the edge of these doing the rescrew in!!

A flashing SES lighting indicates a MISFIRE in a cylinder. I agree with everyone here, quit driving it and fix it ASAP before you blow your converter ($) and oxygen sensors (only 60.00 ea) out of the tail pipe!

A flashing CEL means a misfire in one or more of the cylinders. I had this happen to me when I replaced the spark plugs & wires on my little brother's Jimmy(One of the sparkplug wires didn't seat correctly over the distibutor cap). To save you money I would take it to your local AutoZone and have the code pulled for free. If it is a misfire I would give your truck a tune-up (Wires, plugs, cap, rotor, ect.) That should fix you right up. Good luck.

Hmm, maybe jeremy_gt is a 'bot, cause he/she seems to be ignoring the fact that this thread was over two years old????

Jeremy_gt, it's very good that you are trying to help out, but you're kinda missing the point that this was done and solved two years ago.
