you need a vortec manifold too and I'm not sure if they would even bolt up to an 89 nonvortec block.

Which heads are we talking about? I didn't see a link or pic.
Vortec's, L35 CPI's, and TBI heads are all interchangable as far as the block is concerned. The TBI and CPI heads share the same intake bolt angles, but the 96+ Vortecs need a different manifold.
