Well since being unemployed for the last 3 months I have been doing some work on my daily driver (Black Cameo). So I thought I would throw up some pics from last night.
1. Changed tranny fluid and filter and decided to add TCI pan with cooling fins and extra 2 quart capacity. Also a nice drain plug for next change!

2. Someone took off the Original fog lights and replaced with some long narrow ones so I found some close to the original and after some modifying got them on.

Summitracing.com I bought it before Christmas last year:eek: with some other goodies and never had time to put it on. Got one for the White Ghost too! Give me a minute, I am slow on the pic posting but I am doing it. I may need to get this moved to a build post???
Also, still holding my breath, are they here yet?

Thanks. The original Cameo fog light wiring was still there so I just cleaned it up with some wire connectors and such.

3. Old speakers were busted so I replaced them with some Sony 4 way 140watt. Snapped more than half of the plastic mounting studs off removing the speakers. I had to jack-leg them for now until I can replace them, see last two pics, I tried to epoxy them but it wouldn't hold, so I drilled them and added one machine screw just to hold them till I get a used set from a salvage yard (yes I am making a list).

Yeah ain't it great! Thanks, compared to the originals those others were ugly. If I didn't have my white Cameo to go by I probably would have never noticed just how bad they looked.

Thanks Ang! Black is beautiful, but hard to keep clean. It has a lot of bad spots and some acid rain places on the hood. Later on I plan to get a professional paint job. Believe it or not I painted all the cladding myself. I am waiting on decals before painting the door cladding. DansCameo is my inspiration (see TOTM) and VOTE PLEASE.

I take that as a large compliment coming from a man of your caliber Tom! LOL Thanks Man...I appreciate it. And while I am looking at it , thanks again for the great work on the Planet's Calendar, Brats truck is looking fine on my wall!

While under tthe truck I caught a glimpse of something. Does anyone know what it is/means. Looks like a SuperSport (from 60s & 70s era) tag. I checked my white Cameo and it has them too. One under each door attached to the top of the frame. My brothers 89 S10 he bought shortly after mine does not have them. The first three pics are from my Black Cameo, the rest are from the Ghost. It's a code tag for manufacturing. You can't tell with the "SS" tag but they are actually upside down. Those are just there so the workers knew what parts went on the truck. I snapped mine off.

It's just a plastic chassis tag/identifier.

They are P235/60R15. Just like all of them do, they rub a little when you turn it all they way to one side.

4. I did this a couple of months ago. Digital Dash wasn't working, no Odometer and oil pressure read max at all times. So I switched it out. Odometer works now, but oil pressure stays maxed. I think it may be the oil pressure sending/sensing unit. The only thing about the odometer is the tuck had 264k+ miles and now it shows 170k, but as long as I know who cares.

Yeah just when i turn it all the way one way. 2.5/4 drop. The Irocs cleared better because of their offset. They still rubbed just a little bit and are wider and taller.:paperbag_

Hey Ray that black Cameo is looking good my friend-But the white one look's very very nice! And those driving lite's you just installed make a world of difference. It help's having more than one Cameo, you can look at the white one for guidance. I do the same with our blazer's we alway's have at least two. Great mind's think alike, I also bought a tran's pan but I bought a polished aluminum for the Cameo, It's a quarter inch thick + three inches deep, just need's to be installed-priorities you know. Also picked up three chrome diff. cover's but only installed one so far! And thank's for the prop's on TOTM! August is a good month to enter-it is the month I was born.Go first gen.:)

nice truck, but why does the cladding look so wavy? does it need to be wet sanded / buffed?
its warped. man i hate to say it, and i know its not your fault, but you really got to do something about that cladding. the paint looks good but dam, i am getting sea sick. maybe you can make a piece from fiberglass or at least re-enforce that one with fiberglass to get the shape right, then block and paint it.
idk man you did a good job painting it, it just takes away from it when its all warped like that.
Mikz86TA
11-14-08, 12:27 PM
Looks good. Sucks about the urethene warping. TransAms do it too in some ways. My drivers door bottom gap sags in the middle. From getting in and out and putting pressure on it.
ShowNgo4fun
11-14-08, 01:21 PM
Is the cladding just a Poly type flare? Could you put a brace or something behind it? I would think just a metal strap glued in then fiberglassed over would really help that problem...not sure, never seen them off a truck!
Cameo_S10
11-14-08, 02:07 PM
Nothing you can do about the waves that I have found. The cladding is hollow and very thin. Actually the sun and temperature makes it warp and wave. A body man told me the only possibility was to completely fill the panel and it would probably warp out away from the backing and break loose. Any other thoughts?:(
ShowNgo4fun
11-14-08, 02:43 PM
Any other thoughts?:(
Just what I said before! I think a 2" metal strap running the full length would be sufficient! prolly 3-4 of them spread out would be perfect! Then just glass over them to ensure its stiff and you should be good. That what I would do because it would be pretty easy and strong! Either way, the truck looks kick a$$!
Cameo_S10
11-14-08, 06:25 PM
I might pull one off next week and take a look myself. Just to see if nothing else.
fiberglass the back of it. i have done it before to a friends car (front air dam) makes it a ton stronger.

Ray, I think i told you that it had a bunch of miles on it at least over 200k. on the oil pressure gauge I think your sender is bad OR the sender wire has worn thought the sheething on the wire and went to ground. when I was installing the stroker TPI engine into my sonoma I broke the sender w/o realizing it and when I turned the key on it (not starting it) the gauge pegged out. I then replaced the sender was it was fixed. if you have the dash out still do a continuity check on the sender wire to ground...if it show that you have a ground then thats the problem. nice lights btw...I like both on them. long and short. want to sell the old ones?

I don't have it out. I think its the sending unit on the block. I may take the one off my white Cameo and try it before buying a new one. Thanks again for the Dash, Dave!

Hey Dan I just finished. I have braced my panels with some steel the length of the panel about 2 inches thick some epoxy and fiberglass. The passenger side looks great. The drivers side is still in the clamps at the shop. I fixed the panel under the gas door also. So the answer is yes you can repair the panels. Whatever you do DONT heat them it just makes them worse.

Temporary situation. I plan on getting new decals and having the whole truck painted. Taking them off before getting new ones made would be a mistake. I just painted mine cause the cladding was beginning to look so bad, so I painted over the decals. Most sign shops will make a "rub" of the decals and duplicate them. I always have my white Cameo to go by too. They were looking pretty bad and I did not want them to get worse.
