2.8L Bellhousing bolt sizes?

I need to know what size the transmission bolts are on a GM 2.8L everyone keeps telling me 3/8 x 16. But they're not. IM guaranteeing they're metric, i just want to know what size

I ran into this when I put my engine on a stand. The bolts are metric but I can't remember what size. I just looked through my "bolt buckets" until I found one that would thread in correctly, went to Lowes and bought grade 8 to hold it on. They had a chart in the bolt section that I was able to screw the bolt I had into to show me the size and thread count per inch. Sorry I couldn't help more.
