Has anyone changed the 3.42 to 4.10 in a 2wd sonoma with the auto and a 4.3? if so what kind of gas mileage do you get and what are your rpms around at 70mph. also was it worth it for the performance?

preformance will be phenominal. Gas mileage will be lowered, and your rpms will be up quite a bit. If you arent on the highway too much id say go for it. otherwise, go for some 3.73's

just changed mine 2 weeks ago. you may not believe this but here it goes.
city- didn't lose one bit of gas milage if I keep my foot off of it. I guess it is because the engine dosn't have to work as hard to get the truck moving.
highway- used to get 80 miles to a 1/4 tank now get 75 to a 1/4. rpms will full lock up and 4th gear will be exactly 2600 at 70.
finnally, holy sh*t is it ever worth it. best mod I did to my truck. it does a good job of offseting the low 2nd gear. it pulls so hard now through second and third. it help with first too but you won't be in first too long.
either way. with 3.42 I would get 200 miles to a tank in the city. I get the same with 4.10. and about 320-330 miles to a tank in the city with 3.42 with 4.10 I get about 300.
the gain far out weigh the little extra gas it uses. do the change you won't be disapointed.

Ok so everyone says don't go with the 4.10 gear go with the 3.73. Now, just how much am I gonna benefit from that little gear change, from 3.42 to 3.73? I don't want to be dissapointed when I get the 3.73 and then don't like it and should have gotten the 4.10. I also don't want to be maxxed out of rpm at 100 mph. I have a 4500 lbs (GVWR, haven't weighed it yet) 2 door blazer xtreme. Right now its my work vehicle, any where from 25 to 100+ miles a day. But after I get this job at verizon I have been pushing for, I will be driving about 5 miles to and 5 miles from work a day. Thats when its gonna all the stuff that affects drivabilty. So with what I have explained could anyone make me a recommendation to what gear would be the best. I do go drag racing and am trying to get the best time possible. Right now I'm running 10.2 in the 1/8 (in the heat of the day in fla.) if I put my under drive pulleys back on I could shave about .15 off of that time. After the headers go on and the wynjammer and a gear change I am hoping to run the 1/8 in the low 9's. After a 16.2 at the 1/4 track I hope to have a better time after the headers and exhaust rework.

hey guys, so if you put 4.10's in the rear end did u change over to an Eaton Clutch Possi or are u still running the stock one (limitied slip). I was thinking of putting 4.10's in but now that ive heard how mutch a clutch possi is i really dont wanna. The gear shop told me that if i was to run it hard i would blow the **** outta my stock one.

a little help???

I dont think most people put 4.10's with a super charger. 4.10's are usually on naturally aspirated vehicals.

I went from a 3.42 rear to a 3.73 and it made a real difference. My gas mileage may have went down a couple of miles a gallon at the most but overall performance was worth the loss. Now my rpm's don't drop as much during shifts and it keeps it in it's sweet spot of the power band.Im going to a 4.10 gear after I put the new engine in but im not concerned with the mileage as much as someone else might be so you might wanna consider the pros and cons of it.
