Alright.. I know its kinda dumb posting this issue as it could be many things, but I think I've got it narrowed down..
Can the brake drums make a noticible Clunk when turning? When i jack up the back of my truck they have some in and out play and it appears that its drum play and not the axle..
I've also had the truck on a hoist in a shop, and they couldn't tell me anything was wrong, drive shaft, shocks and tranny all seem secure..
Thanks for any help..

Not sure what you've got going on, but when you have the wheels bolted onto the truck the drum is sandwiched tight between the wheel and the axle flange so there is no way the drum could move without the axle and wheel moving.
Has anyone ever pulled the diff cover off and checked inside the rearend?

My truck does the same thing, but it only does it when I'm turning in reverse. Small clunk, I've never really worried about it.

Yeah I've changed the diff fluid a few weeks ago.. everything looked fine in there..
Perhaps it is all axle play then.. I'm not sure if its rings or whatnot that holds the axle in, but its hard to think they would be worn enough to cause that much play, with only 60,000km on the truck..

If Im driving slowly over my yard where its rougher than the road(obviously) you'd think i was driving something from the 50's with all the clunkin that goes on..

It would have to be the rear diff. When you turn, one tire is always turning more than the other, so I guess the posi locker could be a possibility, unless I am way off base.

could there be play where those c-clips looking things hold the rear axels into the differential? seen old fords do that !

The cross pin keeps the axles from moving in and out. My guess would be the diff or the wrong end play/ to much wear on the gears.

does the rear end make a big clunk while going forward to reverse?

If you have a posi or locking diff, the General makes an additive. I can't recall the part number, but you can tell the parts guy and he'll know. If it's an open one- legger type, the first thing I'd look at would be axle bearings. If you're pretty handy, you can pull that one off at home. If not, by all means take it to a qualified shop. If you do much off-road or even aggressive street driving, axle bearings take an ass-whipping.
Here's a totally different take on it. Is your spare tire loose? It could be swaying and hitting the underside of the bed

I see your from Ontario..where abouts?
I was thinkin a baffed shock, or if you have a G80 in there, I know mine will sometimes will lock when I'm going around a corner..makes it a pain to turn, and you could swear that something is gonna let go.
Let us know.

When switching gears, froward to reverse there is no noise, its just when turning at slow speeds..
I'm going to look into it more today, was way up north fishing for the past 10days..
Jay - I'm from belleville, 1 1/2 hours east of Toronto, yourself?
Thanks for all the input, I'll let you know what I find..
